My 8 Saved My Life

Cruising down a four lane highway at about 55 mph, a woman in a minivan pull from a cross street on the right, without looking, in front of me. She was about half a block in front of me, turned, saw me, froze and completely blocked both of my lanes. I slammed on the brakes and veered left, looking to see how I could hit her with the least amount of damage. I went nose down, left, out into the oncoming traffic a bit, then around her and back into my lane! If I was in my Stealth, I surely would have hit her front wheel. I pulled over to let my heart settle down and was just amazed at how the car handled. Amazing response to a very drastic move.

Yeah I call the RX-8 my rail car. It defines the "zoom zoom" logo for Mazdas, that's for sure. I think it breaks faster than my bike, which is really amazing cause my bike will stop on a dime. I used to say, man I could have avoided that accident if I was on my bike, now I can say the same for my 8 too.

This may start yet another rant against stupid drivers. Forget common courtesy, all I'm asking for is a little common sense. Some people....

Hehe... Sorry about that. Why do they call it "common" sense when it isn't all that common?

wow LesPaul.... I've had some close calls too. It's like some people dont see my 8 at all. I had some guy almost side swipe me and then later gave me the finger and yelled at me to stay in my own lane. The great thing about it was I was in my lane and he tried coming over. Luckily other drivers around me yelled at him telling him off, I was just happy that I didn't get hit!

Awwww, don't say that. Just because she should have been a victim of natural selection doesn't mean that such a highly evolved car should be sacrificed to 'smarten up' our gene pool. Next time just drive the Stealth, hit her, and take the money towards making the 8 even better!!!

I think jonnyb's on to something.

Take her out of the gene pool. Your insurance should cover the car, and your airbag/belt should take care of you...just make sure you aim for her door...

I wouldn't have hit her. Since she was stupid enough to pull out in front of you, she probably would have been smart enough to sue your a**. Net result, loose your car, get an increase in your insurance and a law suit from a moron to boot.

Glad you and your 8 are OK. Just go home, jack in the Les Paul, crank the amp overdrive channel and rip a mean lick. That works for me after a stressful day with my Ibanez SV.

drive hard
drive safe
ROCK ON!

He wouldn't have been at fault for hitting her although if he did not attempt to slow down, she would've had a case against him. Otherwise, hitting her would be completely her fault because he has the right of way. Also, the way the law is written, it may not have been a good idea to use perform the emergency manuever the way he did because of the possible dangers of driving in the wrong side of traffic. If an accident occured while attempting this, it would have been 100% his fault and would probably be an even greater accident. Just glad that you're not hurt and your 8 wasn't damaged. People like that lady shouldn't be driving though.
