Increasing You're MPG
Ok, I''ve just pickd-up my Rx-8, Its still under 350 miles. So far I'm only getting 200 miles on a tank.
Lets start a thread that will help everyone save so money.
Please post any information regarding the different mods one can add to increase the MPG and if possible please mention the price. K&N Air filter is a good start ($50)

The first tank I got was 200 miles, but I blame that on letting it sit at idle most of the time while my friends checked out the car. After that, I've consistently gotten 240-260 miles per tank. Now with over 9000 miles on the car, I get around 270 per tank and I don't think it will get any better than that. The best way to get "good" gas mileage is drive conservatively - and that doesn't cost a thing.

Hmmm....I'm only at around 1200 miles...but my mileage as been steadily climbing....i'm getting close to 20 mpg right now. Keep your revs low, occasionally redline it a bit, and after a while, it'll work itself out. That's what my dealer told me and it's been working so far.

My results so far. This went thru some bouncing around in the octane ratings. I've about settled on 89 since it doesn't seem to make much difference that I can tell, mainly how I drive her. Interestingly the lowest was on a trip to Florida. Notice the last one, it is on what is supposed to be on the "M" flash. I haven't done the needle sweep to see for sure. Most of these are on my commute, about 156 mi/day. Probably 40 miles of 2 lane country roads and the rest interstate @ 70-80.

One could go on a diet and loose 30 pounds or so. This will make the car lighter and more fuel efficient. I know, I know everyone likes a little ***, but no one likes a smart ***.

You could also keep helium balloons in your car. It'll pick up some of the weight and make the car lighter... less friction... :D
Or you could go buy an RSX and have a lot less fun... :D
On a slightly more serious note, it's kind of sad that my 5.7L V8 in my z28 gets much better mileage... around 27 on the highway... and that puts out 400hp....
Ok, time for the real thing...
He brings up a point that I haven't heard previously discussed, after market mods improving mileage, with the exception of canzoomer (and if it has I missed it so please don't start giving me the "there are 348971246 threads on this go search" speech). Any of you with a Typhoon or exhaust system see better mileage?

First of all, a "tank" is not a unit of measure - take the 30 seconds extra to calculate miles per gallon! The RX-8 fuel tank is not that big, so compared to what you drove previously that could be a big factor in your expectations. Second, the car is brand frigging new, you don;t even know how full the tank was from the dealer! As has been posted here MANY times, the mileage does improve as the car gets broken in. There you go, third - there are many, many threads discussing fuel mileage. You need to do some reading before starting a new thread that has been extensively covered! Fourth - the mileage is what it is. Buying a rotary expecting great mileage is a huge mistake - if it's that big a deal to you, then you bought the wrong car. Finally, fifth - a drop in K&N filter will do absolutely NOTHING for mileage, and doesn't filter out small particulates (ie dust) as well as the stock (very large) paper filter.
Regards,
Gordon

I had a '94 Integra LS. I ALWAYS tracked my mileage. Without changing my driving habits, I installed an AEM Short Ram Air Intake. In the previous month and one week, I averaged 27.57 mpg. After adding the intake in the next month and 2 weeks it jumped to 29.73 mpg. Also I had 3 tanks that were over 32mpg. Before the intake I could never hit 30. Don't under estimate the abililty of an intake to increase mileage. I'm not claiming it works on the 8, as a matter of fact that's what I asked, but don't say that it never does anything, because in many cases it has.

Driving a sports car for gas mileage is like buying a 747 for free peanuts- it's obviously not one of the major selling points, and it doesn't really make sense to do it. I'm gonna start a thread to see who can get the worst mileage, and therefore, the most fun. I've seen someone who posted 8 MPG on the track- can anyone do better (or worse, depending on how you look at it)?

I have noticed that The MPG on my 8 has gotten better every tank. Last weekend I had to drive to WV for work. I didn't keep track with my milage on the way there, but on the way back I got 310 miles on one tank of 93 octane. 90% of that was highway though the mountains with the heat on full blast (cruise control set on 71 most of the time). Until that trip I was getting about 250 miles per tank, but that was with much less HW driving... I purchased the CZ 1.1 today. I hope to install it next week. I'll let you guys know if I see any difference.
