Save the "8" Drive

Hey Guys,

A few weeks ago, my beautiful 3 year old Mazda Rx8 was diagnosed with low compression in the first rotor. Despite her will to survive, there was nothing she could do. Mechanics would have to remove and replace her engine for her to survive.

Now, with no warranty and Insurance denying our claim, she is left in the parking lot of the shop she is scheduled to have her operation.

We have an engine on hold, thanks to a small down payment, but that isn't enough. Please read on to see how you can ease her suffering and bring her home once again to the family that loves her:

HAHA seriously, guys, I'm selling a few things to try to raise the couple grand that I need to replace the engine. I put a 500.00 down payment on a used motor, but i still need about $3,800.00. I have tons of things to sell from personal stock and from online suppliers (I own an online store). I also have tons of ebooks for a dollar per title. I don't want to break any rules by self-advertising on the site, but I would be glad to tell you about everything I have when you contact me. Most items aren't "8" related so I don't want to list those items here; however the cause is...So again, if you guys are interested in anything, please PM me or email me through this site, I could really use the money!

Please help me save the car I love?!?

Well what about making a rebuild? It will be much cheaper than buying a new engine.

rebuild

The rebuild wasn't recommended to me by either the dealership or my mechanic, because of reports of vibration and really bad engine noise. And the rebuild is much more expensive; offset by the hours of labor on the engine and, thus installing it.

thanks for the question.

want to buy something??

wow, you're saying a used motor cost 4300?

I thought a new one is like 6K ?

Does the 4300 include labor ?

and when your old motor is out, can I buy it from you ?

Yeah the $4,300.00 includes labor, towing and shipping...the engine i bought has 9k miles on it...I thought it was a good deal.

I just called the guy doing the install and he is going to get back to me about my engine. I would be glad to sell it... Ill get back to you when he does in about 30 min. Then i can work something out with you.

youre in NYC?

thanks

I regret this happened to you rcpilotp51.

My 05 RX-8 has around 47000 miles on it. I still have 3K miles of warranty left. Everything seems fine. I am wondering whether I should try and get an extended warranty on my engine or if there is any way I can find out the " health " of the engine to prevent what has happened to rcpilotp51 from happening to me.

If you do recommend getting an extended warranty is there any particular one that is a good value for money.

I would spend the 200.00 for a compression test...also throttle response is a good indicator, thinking back.

Haha even with the loss of a rotor i beat a v6 jetta off the line...ahh those were the days!

Sorry, I don't get it. If you have a few miles over the 60K you can convince Mazda to honor warrantee or to give you a discount, something known as "goodwill" warranty. Or is it they denied it because you have powertrain mods, or for some other reason?

You also might want to include where you are located. Maybe go to a local meet with a bunch of your more interesting stuff.

Oh and you have a PM.

I agree with going to a dealer and seeing if they'll "fight" for your goodwill; lots of them might just tell you the warranty's over and case closed, but I'm sure you could find one to back up your case. Although there sure is more money in it for them if they get it warrantied from Mazda N.A. but still charge the customer for the job; a double-dipping that I've heard happens at service departments because of greedy owners and their bitching that warranty reimbursement from corporate significantly undercuts their expected profit margins.

I really tried that, and if it were up to Mazda HQ it would be reasonable, and they would do it, but the regional manager in my area said no as well as the district manager. it has nothing to do with the individual dealerships...so after four calls i decided to quit.

thanks
