I am about to turn 41,000 miles. Have not had one secounds problem with the car. (Knock, Knock.) Have turned it off cold more times than I can count (due to my haveing to move the car outside the gate at night before I get off work). Oh, did have the left/rear light and passenger visor replaced.
I LOVE my car. I am beyond satisfied.

I just picked up my 8 and I'm very satisfied!
Satisfied:
-with the looks
-power output (could be better but still keeps pace with my mx6 turbo)
-handling
-interior looks
-goodies (leather, cd, doors, seats)
-service manager was ver helpful in getting me into service
Disatisfied:
-dealership -didn't tell me about the car needing an out of province
-starting work on recalls without prior notice
-car still in shop
-snow
All in all it's a great car but I wish I could drive it now and wish there wasn't as much snow on the ground

Hate my car!!! I have owned this car for 3 months and the dealer had it 33 days of it. Went in for a noise in the headliner and 10 days later I went to Long Beach Mazda to see what the hell was taking too long and noticed they removed ALL door panels, rear seats, and dash. They said they heard some rattles and was trying to help. . Get the car back and you cant hear the radio over all the cabin noise. Took it back for a total of 7 times and the last two time to a different dealer who tell me that I was missing some screws and faseners that hold some of the interior together. 10 more days pass and I get it back with the same problem. Call Mazda customer support. They send out an engineer who kept the car for 3 days reporting he found missing screws, faseners, and loose bolts. Why do I still have this. The car was given back to me unfinished because he was going on christmas vacation and I have to wait for 3 weeks to have him return to finish the work. I am so unhappy every day I drive this car with all the loud metalic hollow sounds comming from the rear drivers door that are so loud I cant hear the radio.

It happens. I worked for a guy who had a lemon camry. Another coworker had a lemon accord.
I hope you get all that fixed or get the car replaced.
Just curious - did you buy it new or used? Did you buy private party or from that same dealer? Did it make the headliner noise during your test-drive?

I'm with you. I hate my car too. I have had nothing but problems from day one. Eighteen printed out pages from the dealer to be exact. Good luck getting them to buy it back or having it qualify for the lemon law, there are so many loopholes it's almost impossible. If my car doesn't qualify I feel sorry for the persons that does.

I purchased the car new with 10 miles on it. I did not hear the rattles during the test drive and not until 3 weeks later. The engineer for Mazda said this problem was just a safty tube that is in the corner of the headliner was not attached to the roof of the car (easy fix). All these other problems are dealer created when the removed my entire interior (dash, seats, door pannels) and not put them back correctly. After 7 vists 33 days 2 dealerships and 1 mazda engineer, I still keep hearing "missing bolts, faseners, wrong screws used". The engineer said they never should have taken out these parts and just fixed the origional problem. Next Wed I have the appointment with the engineer to finish the work he started before christmas. This car has been a nightmare with Mazda.

You could be looking at a good lemon case. See a lawyer if there are still problems. I think you have a 3 month window in which to bring the case.

I didnt just join to post how I hate the car, I joined to read other posts to get some help with my situation. If you just like to here how great the car is and that Mazda never has had one bad care or one bad customer then you are living in a dream world. I did a lot of research before buying this car and drove several before making my choice for the RX8. I think it is a great car, HOWEVER why cant my car get fixed! why is every resolution to the issues missing parts! I have pages of repair orders that state this EVEN from the Mazda engineer from Irvine CA.

Sorry mate, But I somewhat find it difficult to understand why a dealer that has a car in for for a "Headliner" rattle, would have ALL the door trims, rear seats and DASHBOARD removed???

If the tech had put all the clips back, and used the proper screws in the driver door and tighting all the bolts, It never would have gotten to this point. I also didnt mention that due to the lousy craftsmanship, I had the driver door handle replaced, rear trim and pass window motor replaced do to these items breaking when I operated them and they had loose or no bolts holding them to the car (I have detailed workorders to back this up). Everything that I have stated is in the report with photographs that the Mazda engineer (who was sent when I called the 800 number) gave me when he worked on my car. He said it was so much work for him and due to his christmas vacation comming up he had to finish the car when he returned. This appointment is scheduled for this Wed.

Continues to thrill
The RX8 continues to thrill me in a way other cars have failed. This car, glides by with perfect dignity when I'm just driving, yet at the same time, out of no where it delivers a perfect execution of power and control, everything in the rear view mirror just becomes Domesticated.
I've been beaten only once in a race, and I'm still driving stock.
Bravo Mazda! Bravo!

I have now had the Blue 8 for over 8 months. She stood up well to one of the coldest temperatures recorded for our area (less than 11 degrees) it was so cold it killed my red car battery and made the one in the Blue sick, but the dealer (Valley Mazda)replaced it with one that has about 3 times the cold cranking power and the car is better than new.
During this time we have driven 3 rental cars (in Hawaii, etc.) and found they just did not have what the 8 has.... She has an appearance that has made her welcome at local car shows and we get compliments almost every day...it makes you feel loved! Also the heater worked so well - along with the heated seats, that it was more comfortable in the car than in the house when the temperatures did their big dip!

The RX-8 does draw attention. Two weeks ago it was two older men commenting on the car as I walked up in the parking lot. Before that it was a 30s woman that commented on how beautiful the car was.

While there are a large number of things that could be improved on (see the rest of the board for examples) that I would value, the overall package is very good at a very reasonable price point. I am highly satisfied with my RX and really believe it conveys all the critical aspects of Mazda's marketing - Zoom Zoom

About 6 months of ownership so far an it's been great. My only issue is the need to have the engine fully warmed up before shutting down. I still find it to be annoying if simple procedure. Well that an the sand/marbles in a blender. Annoying too but since I don't live in the 7-9k range it's rarely heard.

i too am highly satisfied, with my 2004, 33k miles, and the only things that are a little bothersome are the sometimes squeaky brakes-but i will not replace with aftermarket pads to try and counter bc the oem's work so very well, the skipping of the cd player when driven hard over bumps, and the lack of lower lumbar support in my driver's seat (i have the base, cloth seats). thinking hard of why i am not 100% satisfied left me with these few problems. adding oil every once and a while is not hard, and should not be a complaint for the most dainty woman, and the gas mileage issue is silly to complain about bc owners demand race car performance with practicality, luxury, and budget in mind. that considered, the mpg is not bad at all. i highly reccomend this car and will never sell mine.
