no the airbags didn't deploy I was surprised also but, everything worked out in his favor in terms of injuries sustained and such, it probably was best in this particular situation that they didnt

The front only has the air bag sensor for the front. The side airbag sensors are elsewhere.
The sensors only work through detecting acceleration/deceleration, triggering them to deploy if they pass certain thresholds of speed (not vehicle speed, acceleration or deceleration velocity change). Rollovers inherently have a low speed deltas, as they only shed a fraction of the vehicle's speed on each minor impact. I can easily see how the airbags didn't trigger. Even gravel in the ditch will soften the impact and reduce the speed delta further.

Damn dude... glad ur ok. My g/f flipped her truck on a highway doing 60 several months back. Flipped several times cuz she hydroplaned. It was raining and the highway she was on is notorious for that kind of ****.
Luckily she didnt hit any cars. Was a miracle. All she has from that day is one small scar on her back and a fear of that highway lol.
Again, glad to see your ok. It was, and prolly still is nerve racking.
