RX8 Warranty process

Hey guys,

So the dealership determined that I need a new catalytic converter and they said they sent the numbers and codes to Mazda and that they would get back to me when Mazda gets back to them and gave me back my keys and let me drive off.

Can anyone explain to me the warranty process and about how long it should take? they said they sent the info to mazda on wednesday and I called them today and they said they didnt have any info for me yet. What can I expect to see? Will they call me back and say "okay mazda is sending us a new cat for you, it should be here in... and will take... long to install"?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

errr, how is that possible? hmm, cuz it's not rocket science to tell if the cat is still alive or already dead.

there are ways to "finish" the cat off in couple of days. oooh I said too much

All i know is, they send the paperwork to Mazda Headquarters for final approval and the dealerships gets the go ahead to do the warranty work.

My cat was replaced a couple of weeks ago, and as near as I can tell there was no time delay in approving it.

I limped into the dealership mid-afternoon with a really bad misfire. I waited about half an hour for diagnosis. Coils, wires, plugs, O2 sensor and possibly cat. They gave me a loaner, and my 8 was ready the next afternoon...with a new cat.

They did call me after they did the ignition stuff and O2 sensor to say that they confirmed the cat was bad and they'd need another hour to replace it and finish up.

I was saying, it is easy as "@##!" to know if the CAT is bad.

and if it's already "on the edge", there are ways to give it a "quick death"

oh man I said too much again.

But he said that the dealer has already determined the cat is bad...so it's not an edge thing.

The part about Mazda needing to send a cat is odd. I suggest going to a dealer that has parts in stock.

I would say most dealer except really big ones like Wayne would never stock such an expensive part. That thing has a msrp of 1.6k. Yes I know the thing cost them about 700 but it's still expensive. If no one goes in for warranty or buying it, the dealer will have to eat the cost

I am having a feeling my cat is clogging up. Cuz the mpg has been pretty shitty, I remember I got the best mpg when I had a new cat. I don't know. Maybe I should take it off and look at it, or just give it a quick death? Lol

It is now 6 day later since they said they send the number to Mazda and still they have not contacted me with any info. Does anyone know how long it normally takes to get approval? And how long would it generally take for the install of the cat? What are the chances they would have it in stock or am I going to have to wait 6 weeks just to get the thing shipped? Also does anyone know if they are supposed to reimburse me the cost of the diagnosis $125.00?

It should take less than a call to get the cat replace, it's not even a major part and everybody knows rx8eat cats for breakfast.

As for install, should take about an hour.

If they approve this, u should get ur money.back, should be from the dealership, best is use credit card.

U should call and ask

It should be a lot less than 6 days. More like a phone call, as nycgps says. Like I said, I rolled into my dealer mid-afternoon, and by the next afternoon the new cat was on. Even if they don't have one in stock, it should take only a day or two to get one. My bad ignition episode was preceded by a broken shock episode. Shock diagnosed on a Friday. They needed to order the parts, and they were in on Tuesday.

Where are you located and who's the dealer?

Honestly, I would just go to another dealer, and ask them to check it out.

BC.
