rx8 VS astrovan: car accident

Wow. I never thought the first pictures I would post of my 8 would be from a car accident. Yesterday around 4:30pm I was t-boned by an astrovan.

Sorry about the car. How fast do you think the van hit you? It looks like the cabin held up pretty well.

Isn't it a galaxy gray?

Ouch!

That definitely left a lasting impression.

Looks like you walked away with a pressed license plate frame.

Did they run a light?

terrible sight to see but glad to see the side airbags deployed -- if there is any silver (no pun intended) lining.

it was actually a titanium gray. I took the pix with my phone, so the colors are a little off.

To make matters worse, on the way to the collision shop, the 8 fell off of the tow truck. No kidding. You can see the damage to the bottom front of the car in the pic

The RX-8 should never be towed the way they towed yours. The driving wheels should be off the ground. It's in the owner's manual.
The best thing is to get it towed on a flatbed.

On the other hand, the damage looks bad but in case you don't have frame damage, they'll be able to repair it and get it back to it's previous state perfectly - provided you get it done in a very good body shop.

The 8 is pretty tough.

Titanium Gray is just French for Sunlight Silver. The curse continues.

I heard that if the frame between the front/back doors is damaged, it's an automatic sign as being considered totaled. If this is the case, I think my 8 is dead

Okay, the cliff is another story. But this accident took place in Irvine, CA on flat roads. I dont know what speed the guy was going. I'll ask my insurance after they receive a copy of the police report.

I rode with the tow guys to the collision center and after the 8 dropped off the back, they tried to tell me that the damage was from my accident. I smiled and said "i dont think so" and proceeded to call my insurance company, again. I'm glad I was there when it happened. I'm not sure I would have noticed the damage right away.

Thanks. I passed by the mazda dealership this morning and saw a couple of 8's that I liked in case my car gets totaled. I'm in love with the 8.

I actually bought my car for a great price, so hopefully my insurance will mark the value of the car higher, and I'll be able to replace it. Ti gray wasnt my first choice in color

That sucks, but the plate cover pressed on the car was kinda funny... I would seriously go after the tow company... Dropped it AND towed it wrong... evn if you were there, they should be the professionals and know how to properly tow the car.

Sucks! You can definitely tell that the doors are aluminum by the way they crumpled!
