Amazing show of support. Makes me feel proud to be on the same board

Radiator temp:
Check to see how bad the radiator vanes are smashed up. My mom had a car with ~175k on it that the vanes had nearly all been smashed flat from rocks/debris, and it always ran 20-30 degrees hotter than it should. 155k on the 8 I could see the same problem.

Just something simple to check.

I'm at work right now, but sometime this afternoon/early evening (on my way home) I can come over and pull that code, and check how beat up the radiator looks.

Yeah...........I know. I only saw two and the were the same number. It was done twice...........or someone messed up? Maybe Rach can confirm or I will later today, but I think it was 3506F and I was surprised that it wasn't 4206F, but I might not be remembering correctly. Rach.........two blue stickers on the inside of your hood......near the front.......what are those numbers?

You da man!
Remember I spun the fans and seemed to be okay. I'd still like to see if the one fan is actually turning.
Wanna bet she stopped for gas(remember she was low, we drove it a little, then she went to Malabar and back), she had to get gas and that caused the CEL????? Loose gas cap??????? I hope it's that easy.

Also, the tornado thing was in the car when she bought it. I'm not sure Rachael was even aware it was in there. We got a good chuckle out of it though, so I'm actually glad it was.

Here's another picture of it:
We should sell it! What did she do with it?????????

at 155K, if its still the original Radiator. it will be a "good idea" to just replace it with a new one with all the radiator hose. 300 something bux for the rad and maybe 100 for the hose ? 5 gallons of coolant for drain/flush. good to go for another 150 K miles (if the motor is good)

Rach's to do list!

The list in no real particular order.

Go to www.mazdausa.com and click on OWNERS section at the top. Register(need VIN) and download the owners manual. Really should go ahead and read through this manual all the way from beginning to end. May have to do it more than once, but then when questions arise........you can say........hey, I remember something about that......let me go find it in the manual.

Check the oil every two fill-ups and top off if needed but don't overfill either!

Never shut it down cold, we went over that it should always be allowed to reach operating temp before shutting off. You can watch water temp here and let it get to normal position. Drive around the block a time or two if need be.

Call Mazda(dealer) and say she has just bought the car 2nd hand and is curious as to what ask what flashes the car has had. Will need VIN to do this.

Get new brake pads.............really soon!

We made her promise to wash the car(maybe claybar), wax, and then take pics and put them in this thread.

Newly added.............run a couple of tanks of premium gas through it at least, and I may throw some Techron in it........or BK44. If this helps, then move from 87 octane to at least 89.

Drive the car hard when able. Don't want to push a young lady to do anything stupid, but when the opportunity presents itself...........stomp on it from time to time.

Probably more, but all I can think of right now. Will edit once I think about all we talked about. Remember we only wanted the real basics.

stickers mean nothing other than one has been done. i am two flashes past the last sticker the car has. dealers rarely put them on..

i think one of you has a scan tool. that will pull the flash..

and again great job guys. i do have a spare radiator. but those temps dont seem to far out of line..

beers

We both have Scan Gauge II's, can you pull a flash with that?

It was consistently 203-211. Even while cruising.

Yeah, but it's the only data we have right now, until we check it with the scangauge. Thanks for the words Scott, we are trying.

This seems to be gettign better. I like CEL's cause they tell you what is wrong. LOL

I run 205F as my constant; 2007 MT. I think some of the newer flashes make it run hotter.

This thread is proof that we are the Mac Nerds of the automotive world....

that piece of trash probably caused the flood in the first place by confusing the MAF.

other things i was going to say seem to have been covered. definitely move up to 89 at least where you are and consider pre-mix.

when you heard the marbles did it sound like it was coming in front of the driver or from the passenger footwell?

could just need a coolant flush fill and burp.

if it says fl-22 on the cap just use the fl-22 if not just a50- 50 mix or even more water for florida.

Well...............the coolant bottle was replaced some time ago, so it doesn't have what I thought was a stock cap on it. It surely wasn't like mine and didn't say FL-22. I just know that when debugging especially, it's better to start off with what it is supposed to have and go from there. I was more worried about the actual ingredients than anything else.

Marbles.............to be honest, I thought it was coming from in front of me, and I was driving. My hearing isn't the best, but that's what I thought and was beginning to think maybe the heat shield was rattling, but decided against it. It for sure would be there as you passed through 5-5.5k rpm's and then when it shifted to next gear, would go away.

Okay................let's hope Advanced reads it right. Still gotta figure out the flash she's on, but a phone call to dealer would get that info.
