My guess....

Air Leak from hose - then bad gas + old gas....combo.

Get some new good gas in there and I bet it clears up

Her car came equipped with a wicked cool Tornado fuel saver thingamabob in the intake, which we gladly removed:

Took a picture of Rachael during one of our many Dr. Pepper breaks:

She took one of us putting the cat back on:

Speaking of cats... now I know what everyone's talking about when they say my car is equipped with a ***** magnet:

And the mech was either screweing her over; or did a leak down test and found it held no compression cause of the leak + rotary...... silly piston mechanics

Oh ****!
I forgot about the Tornado!

It nearly took my hand off or turned it into hamburger when I reached in there!

Last thing I expected when I put my hand in tha accordian. We thought maybe we'd find a dead rodent....not that!

This is what a 4 Port Renesis sounds like when you disconnect the midpipe:

Test drive vid (at this point there was no longer a "marbles in the can" sound)

I didnt read the whole thread, only the last 2 pages and the first. yeah I know the car work now but just wanna say a few words

The original tech who said her motor has no compression is nothing but full of ****. obviously he has no idea what he was doing. Just want to make some cash outa her.

About the coolant - Just flush it with regular Green 50/50 stuff and her car will be fine. FL coolant is nothing but a 55/45 coolant/water extended life coolant mix. so 50/50 wouldn't decrease its performance.

Whoever put that Tornado crap in there does not deserve this car.

it sounds like it was a vacuum leak.

it works now. good

Noted.........thanks!
Original mechanic was a friend....looking for free. Stopped because he just didn't know about car and didn't want to go further, but did say she needed a new motor.

In all fairness, I think the tech that told her that her motor was bad was a friend; I don't think she paid him anything, he was just trying to help.

Also, the tornado thing was in the car when she bought it. I'm not sure Rachael was even aware it was in there. We got a good chuckle out of it though, so I'm actually glad it was.

Here's another picture of it:

my check engine light came on, i drove to malarbar in the 8 tonight, and then at 12 i was on my way back home and just singing to music you know just being loud looked down at my dash, doing about 60ish and blam the light pops on...i was sad...but i mean it was riding fine to me...but i figure thats something we'll have to watch right? i mean i could just pull one of the termals off the battery and pretend it never showed up lol...but i rather not... but i figured i would bring it up....

it seems that the previous owner was a complete moron. LoL Tornado FTMFL.

I actually feel kinda happy for her, cuz she found this place and you guys. which pull that damn bullshit biggest scam of the century out.

Another thing about the tech, I read that post, well. If its me, if my friend wanna help out, thats perfectly fine, thats what friends are for, right? but if he/she really have no clue or never worked on the subject b4(it seems to be the case, no offense to anybody), please just tell me "I dont know how to solve this/sorry can't help, no clue".

Never "assume" or "I guess" or "I think thats the way it is"

no need to panic. if your car drives fine/feels fine. its probably something minor. this car's computer has "HUGE" amount of self-diagnosis logic build-in, but for some reason sometimes it just can't sense major problems while giving u error on a freaking gas cap.

Just pull the code with a reader, then everybody here will try to figure it out for you.

Nice to see the car running again.

Marbles in the can is a horrible sound, I heard it once before....

Usually Bad Gas which leads to detonation.

A big win for rx8club, Mazurfer, and Bastage !!!

Rachlayyy8, take your car to an Autozone and have them read the code(s) from your check engine light. They'll do it for free. Bring the codes back to us and we'll see what we can see.

Something else to do, to swoopes point, is call a Mazda dealership, ask for their service department, give them your car's VIN # and ask if it has gotten the MSP16 recall performed? I think you can also do it over at the mazda USA site. I believe that recall (which puts a better version of "brains" in your car) doesn't expire like warranty type stuff.

Rachael,

Sorry, I didn't know the timing of when the tag light was put on.

I'm busy today, but hopefully either Bastage or I can run by and pull that code real quick at sometime today.

Did you stop for gas by chance? You almost had to, because there wasn't a lot in it. If you did stop for gas.......did the CEL appear soon after?

Try to limit the driving for now until we see what it is. Did the CEL flash or was it solid?

Swoope...........Only flash sticker I saw under the hood was 3056F(I think, I cannot remember), I know it wasn't 4206F.....so the car is maybe at least two behind.

Do you guys think the coolant at 209-213 is really okay? Sure seems high to me. But as we ran it hard, it didn't go any higher.............but she did just drive it longer...........oh well......nevermind......we gotta get that code.

We talked about that(calling and see what flash it has/has not had). Is it one of her action items.
I'm typing up the list and putting it in here, so she can see it straight up.
Can't overwhelm her to much with stuff, just what she really needs to do.

This is also why we told her NOT to take the car back to Orlando yet. Only drive it locally for about a month, because we figured it was 100% ready to call it over and done with and we didn't want her breaking down in the middle of nowhere on 520, the Beachline, or elsewhere.

Rachael..............call my cell when you see this(Your mom has the number). I will try and see if I can get over there later today...........unless Bastage can beat me there.

List coming in my next post.

there should also be a sticker under the hood showing the recall work being done. It was one of my newbie questions last year when I was welcomed to the site, let me see about tracking down the picture.
