I just don't understand why they compare highway gas milage to a corvette.

lets look at other comparisons.

Corvette - 430 hp - 26mpg highway
S2000 - 237 hp - 25 mpg highway
350z - 306 hp - 25 mpg highway
Mustang GT - 300 hp - 23 mpg highway

Anyways you start go get the point. So by all their articles then all the 4 cars must suck when compared to a corvette since they don't produce as much horsepower and still get worse gas milage then a corvette. The corvettes 6th gear is all about cruising and getting the best gas milage because of its super lower overall gear ratio.

Anyways, my point is not that the rotary gets as good gas milage vs a piston, but the fact they compare it to a corvette makes it seem like the RX-8 gets extremely bad gas milage when it doesn't.

Sometimes I have wondered though, what would happen if they gave the rx-8 an extra 7th gear just for 70+mph speeds, that way we can drop the rpms from 3500 to 3000.

Honestly, the whole list is stupid. If you're "surprised" by any of the vehicles listed being gas guzzlers you really haven't done any homework.
