Hmm... I just got my 8 and so far i've had no cop trouble besides them tailing me waiting for me to screw up (happened just a few hours ago again). In my old Mercury, that was a much different story. Was pulled over like 4 times. Only 1 ticket.

And as for the cameras, they are also big in Chicago. The sensors pick up your speed and take a photo of your license plate. It goes to the police post, where they then mail your ticket to your house, and if you are lucky, you get the picture of your car, too.

And for the record, my 8 isnt a chick magnet.. But it gets plenty of stares. Guy on a crotchrocket at a 4 way stop turned all the way around as i drove past him. He lifted his eye guard and everything. Kinda made my day. =)

I get plenty of attention; wanted and unwanted. Most of the time its guys trying to catch up and see what kind of car I'm driving. Then there are the people who like to rev their engines at me trying to race (two corvettes, one porsche, 3 bmw m3s, one aston martin vantage, and countless of cavilers; damn I just love phoenix).

I get cop attention constantly just driving through town they constantly follow me ive been pulled over twice to see if I stole the car.I got a ticket for going 3 over on the highway and have had them flicker my lights at me so I slow down when im already under the speed limit.

but I do live in montana where the nicest cars generally on the road are typical corvettes.

half the cops I talk to don't even know what my car is

Definitely not a cop magnet. But I do live in an area with lots of sports cars running around and my mods are not the type that stand out and say look at me.

I've not been pulled over yet. Mainly because I obey the laws and what not.

I think I remember hearing talk about how those don't work anymore.

Not sure, we don't have those around this neck of the woods.

Your record is still clean. DC speed camera tickets don't go on your record, no points, no insurance bump. It is because they generally can't prove it was you driving. They are actually ticketing the CAR, not you. It functions more like a parking ticket than a speeding ticket.

And yes, it is a cop magnet for me, although I work with cops alot, so the attention is generally when it is parked.

A common discussion:
O: "How fast is it?"
Me: "Oh, I can usually get it all the way up to the speed limit."

If pushed, I talk about my track times.

Thanks for the clarification, much appreciated! Your common discussion sounds familiar though! lol Although I've never been pulled over (knock on wood), EVERY time I go through the gates on base (every single day) I get this:

Gate dude: That sure is a purty car. Is it fun?
Me: Sure is! (although tempted to say...Nope! Not at all!)

or

Gate dude: Hey Fast n Furious (the name given to me by the guards)!
Me: Hello again.

...amongst other not so amusing lines. :P

It's usually the appearance of the drivers that gets the police's attention more often than the appearance of the cars.
So time to tilt that baseball cap back forward.

The only time I get attention from cops is when I take a turn 8-style while a cop is around. And then I just get tailed until the cop figures out I'm not speeding. There's no law against failing to slow down for a turn, fortunately.

If you have big shiny rims, a loud exhaust, vinyls, etc., then you may get some attention, but otherwise cops aren't likely to bother you as long as you don't drive stupid.

Well, I'm doubly screwed in this regard... my car is lowered, heavily tinted, no front plate, no cat, and loud. I get pulled over a lot. Most of the time I'm not even going fast, but its a total cop magnet. Then when I do get pulled over, I have long hair and tattoos so that doesn't help.

It can be a cop magnet , it depends on what you do to it. Body kit it , turbo or loud melon launcher exhausts will get you attention. Im also seeing a lot of ****** rx8 owners speeding everywhere doing ricer **** weaving through traffic. Talk about bad rep with the cops

We'll see more of that as the prices on used 8s continue to nosedive and they fall into younger hands. Fortunately, Mustangs are much more popular with the kiddies.
