Try dropping tire pressure about 10 PSI.

It snowed a few cm in vancouver last week going from a plowed bridge to an off ramp with compact snow I almost rode the guard rail down to the bottom of the ramp missed by probably a few inches on my left side... reguardless to say the stock 18" tires are not meant for anything else but dry ground... I've also gotten a few rock chips (very minor) but chips none the less. I bought my 2005 blue rx-8 in october and I'm regreting driving it this winter... I'm going to look for a beater car this weekend!

Dunlop M3s work AWESOME in multiple inches of snow. I've driven 4 winters with them and they handle like champs. I got to places where my friend's truck could not.

I have the same ones, they're awesome. You won't have any problems, it'll be fun.

sweet. I actually love the way they are handling dry and wet pavement ~45 degrees F, so as long as they do the business when it snows, I'll be a happy guy. They look ******* mean, too.

Pirelli Winter Asymetrico 240's - stock size on factory rims - hopeless in the snow.
Great on cold dry pavement though.

I can't even get up a 2% incline from a standing start.

Once I get moving - it's ok - DSC off is more fun - that's what the LSD is for!

Would not recommend these to anyone, unless they want a cold weather tire - not a snow tire.

They are quiet, and have more grip in the cold than the stock RE040's. A bit softer sidewall though naturally.

With the RE040's I could easily spin the car from a standing start without too much clutch abuse - great for U-Turns.

With the RE050's - Can't.
With the 240's?? Can't. Strange that a winter tire has more grip than a summer only tire.

I thought long and hard in buying snows and opted to let the car sit during the winter months in Denver. The reason is Denver road crews put down lots and lots of pea gravel stones and once they get airborn from other cars spinning their tires its like little missiles hitting the front of the car doing all kinds of dings and chips to the paint not to mention chips out of the windshield. I prefer to leave it sit for the winter and drive a beater instead. I know the day or year is coming when the RX will be my only ride and then I will put snows on it. I've seen few RXs in the Denver area in the snow but the one's I do see seem to move along nicely.

Thankfully my neighbor is my boss and he drives a 4x4 truck so I wont have too many problems getting to work in snowy conditions

I have the Hankook Icebears but in 17inch and 215 width. They handle just fine in the Canadian winters ... so I think that your issue might be width related (as mention by Stew)

With regards to tire pressure, I usually run with 34-36psi in the winters (to compensate for lower temperature).
