How bad is it to have too much oil?

A week after I had my oil changed, my red engine oil light came on so I bought a quart and poured all of it in. The oil light hasn't been on ever since but when I check my dipstick oil is always at the top of the flat surface (above the F). Didn't think I'd be too bad so I just drove the car for about a thousand miles. I recently started to feel it roughly when it changes gear and the coolant light started to come on for the first 5 min I crank the car. I'm going to the mechanic soon but some advice from you guys would be great.
... and yeah, I'm a first time owner.

I over filled mine once, and the oil level did not drop until I drained it, it seemed my OMP stopped pumping.

Your results may vary.....

None of these issues seem to be related... but if your coolant light is on and the resivour is full, then the float sensor is most deffinitely shot in the coolant tank.
