i didn't read all the others people responses but.. if you don't care about gas consumption then why would oil consumption bother you? it's only something like a quart in between oil changes (3.5k miles for me).. a quart isnt going to cost you $ wise if you don't care about gas. I really don't think you understand what the MPG numbers are like with this car.

Also, the flooding issue was taken care of long ago. Still though, this is NOT A PISTON ENGINE, YES it IS different. Different things are maintained different ways. That said.. it's a rotary. The rotary cannot be shut off cold, end of story. Let it warm up before you turn it off and you will be fine.

Lastly, yes torque sucks.

Research the MPG before you say it doesn't matter to you but oil consumption does.. wtf is that?

Now I like Porsche's, but in the 968 we're talking about a car that has lineage that goes back to the 924 in the 70's. Wasn't the 944 considered the "best handling car" when Crocket and Tubbs were considered cool?

But I almost bought a used 944 in '92, but found the big 4 cylinder to feel truckish - at the time I drove my solo 2 Swift GT with a modded 1.3 that ran like a swiss watch by comparison. But she handled well...but sorry, not RX8 well.

Can't imagine the 968 - that put the best features of the attractive 944/911/928 models into one unattractive car - to be much better.

I'll agree with Icemark on the 924, but from the 944 on they were real Porsches. Built in Stuttgart with what was half the 928 engine.
The 944/951/968 body was still built by VW/Audi at Audi's Neckarsulm factory... sure the engine was Porsche, and in 86 they got rid of most of the Sirocco electrical system... but it was still only half way there when comparing to a 911 variant.

and you have to look at things like using the rear side window gasket to hold the rear seat side panels in, and just lame VW stuff like that.

All Porsche 968 were Zuffenhausen built, right next to the 911, so built quality is fantastic. And from what I've been hearing, it's considered one of the most reliable Porsche's around. Yes, service and parts will be costly but that's offset by the fact the 968 cost me $20k less than a new RX8.

They are completely different cars. I love them both.
