Why don't you look up on what is a troll. We know what an RX8 is and we're not in denial. You're just a moron coming onto a forum to bash on a car. You're straight up ignorant and dumb. If you really do own an RX8 then I don't know what crawled up your vagina and died. Even if you owned an RX8 and hated it, you made a moronic move buying an RX8 (and not knowing what it is) instead of a Honda Civic.

Get a life.

This one you do - that's how the lube system works. Just part of the rotary mystique. Most of us here enjoy the need to peer under the hood more often than with other cars. And discuss where we keep our spare oil bottle. Just like British sports car owners back in the 60s enjoyed communing with their SUs, even though most other cars had carburetors that worked without a fuss.

If it's not for you, then you made a wise choice moving on.

Okay, I'm going to humor you a minute and pretend you aren't a troll. Let's see what's wrong with your initial post, shall we?

1. Uses way to much oil, as well as gas.
It's a sports car. Did you expect it to get 55mpg? Mine gets between 16-21mpg, depending on how I drive it. But I KNEW THAT when I bought it. And how does it use too much oil? The engine itself uses oil- which, if you'd done ANY research (which you clearly didn't) on the rotary engine for more than three seconds, you'd have known. Could you not afford the extra $2 every 2k miles? That's all it costs me. You should be checking your oil on any car you buy every thousand miles or so anyway, so is the extra 15 seconds it takes to pour that quart in every 2k really such a hassle?

2. I got outrun the other day by a 11 year old kid on his bicycle.
I'm still mystified by everyone who whines the car is slow. When most people can get it 0-60 in under 7 seconds, how is that slow? Sure, it's not an Evo- but then, if you wanted an Evo, why the hell didn't you buy one? Or a WRX? Or an s2000? Or a Corvette? Again, didn't you read anything about the car before you bought it?

3. No matter what anyone says, the rotary engine is way to unreliable. Don't give me that its more reliabe than a piston motor crap, you know you are lying to your self if you say it is. I have read many post titles on here that say, Engine Dead at 75K or Engine dead at 65K.
I just hit 80k with no problems- and mine is one of the early 2004s that are supposedly "buggy." Are you new to the internet and forums in general, or did you not know that people are always more likely to speak up when they have a problem than when they're happy? Maybe you should try reading other car boards and seeing how many problems THEY have. I'd love to see some statistics to back up your "unreliable" statements, since you're so sure of yourself there.

4. And probably the most important. RESALE. No matter how good of deal you get on your RX-8, in the end you ARE gonna be upside down (unless you make payments of $2000 a month payments). I mean if you got a 15K mile car and put another 15k miles on it, BAM car is worth like half.
This is probably your stupidest point yet. If you knew anything at all about resale values on cars, you'd know the RX-8 is right about average in holding its value(15-20% when you drive it off the lot, 10-15% every year thereafter). If you were so dumb as to be upside down on the car to begin with, that is totally your fault for not making a decent down payment.

And you're complaining that you didn't expect to be attacked when you posted this. Just what, exactly, did you expect to happen? You post blatently ignorant statements, and then expect everyone to just sit back and agree with you?

I in no way think my car is perfect. I'd love better gas mileage. I'd love my A/C to be colder. I'd love if it could do 0-60 in under 6 seconds. But what I'd really love are for people like you who insist on perpetuating these incredibly stupid ideas about non-existent problems to actually pay attention before you buy one.

How is everyone in denial? Everyone here knows about the oil and the bad mileage and how it doesn't perform as well as its competitors in straight lines. I think you're the idiot for not knowing those things before purchasing the car

Mouth breathers generally don't understand the appeal of the RX-8.

When the CFO of your company says he likes your car, the guy who chooses between driving the M5, the Jag, or the Porsche to work. Then you are suddenly smacked in the back of the head by the appeal of the RX-8.

/Happened to me today
//Told him he should test drive one and he might like it more then his M5

My car is creeping up to 50k miles and not only have I had 0 problems with it, I've never had to add oil once, plus I've got one of the earliest builds (2003). The resale value sucks, but anyone who buys a Mazda with expectations of having decent resale value later on is a complete dumbass. You either buy a car like this with the intention of enjoying it for as long as possible, or you lease.

Man this has been a serious pounding.
Anyway as Elara said the resale actually isn't that bad, and you just don't buy the car to resell.
Repeat after me: You do not buy a car to resell. You do not buy a car to resell.
You buy a car to drive it.
Goooooood.
A car is not stock. It is not an investment that will gain you interest or dividends over time. Value will not increase like on a house. End of story. Wake up, get your head out of your ***, etc. A car will not make you money like a stock / land investment. Not a car that can be had cheaply (like the 8) anyway. Perhaps some ultra expensive, or older collector car could.

About oil. Really? Is that really a valid complaint? Believe it or not I've seen cars that burn more oil than the 8.
I end up going to get an oil change before I even have to add any oil in general.
Maybe it's because I don't put much mileage on it each day, I dunno.

Sometimes I get a grin on my face driving down the road after taking off and switching from 1st all the way to 6th as quick as I can. I actually want to drive the car each day - driving isn't a chore, it's something I look forward to.
When morons are driving like idiots, I can maneuver around them and zoom off.

One time when stopped at an intersection I saw a guy in an s2000 oncoming in the opposite lane. I couldn't see much due to the glare form the sun, but once he got beside me I looked out the window and saw that the guy was rubbernecking - he was staring at me and my 8, lol. People do that all the time.
People at work always want to ride with me when we go anywhere.
There are just a million reasons to love this car.
