true, but they are all cars commonly seen on the road. Bullitt stated the rx8 is fast but not quick. since he did not mention which cars he is comparing the it to, i brought up just a few examples of what we encounter the most on a day to day basis. the cars i chose were all grocery getters that should not hold a candle to a marketed sports car and yet, they all keep up or out accelerate the rx8. lets do apples to apples then. the only japanese midsized rwd, mid 20K sports car i can think of that is being sold currently is the 370Z... i dont see how were doing any better. my point was in todays market, the RX8s performance numbers arent really "fast" either.

If only mazda used a single turbo on the FD and not a sequential twin turbo. The FD rx7 could have shown better reliability and that could have been brought onto the rx8 during development.

But instead we get the NA renny which isnt bad but isnt great either

If the FD was 3-rotor NA then we would all be better but our RXs would probably more expensive. Besides, I think the reason the FD was using twins is that single turbos weren't up to snuff back then right?

sequential turbos were cheaper and were a high tech back then. Supras had them as well. Its a pretty cool design for DD's.

Sequential turbos were good for daily driving as they built boost faster or laid off boost in normal driving with just one running at low RPM. Large single turbos lag, and they especially lagged back then. Now, with all the advancements we have in F/I tech, single turbos and twin turbos are more evenly matched, but running a sequential set-up is still pretty trick and it works really well.

I wish MazdaSpeed would put out a factory warrantied turbo add on, with a factory tuned ECU. I mean, seriously, Toyota made a ****** supercharger for the TC and we got nothing. It shouldn't be too hard for them to make a nice kit, based off the FD's system. Especially with the money Mazda has. And, honestly, it would make the RX8 viable for another few years easily, as I bet sales of the kit, or whole factory turbo'd cars, would sell like hot cakes.

Our cars direct competitors at the RX8's release was the Audi TT, S2000, 350Z. The RX8 hung with those cars on paper, still slower after 60 yes, but never-the-less it was worth it due to the neutral balance of the vehicle.

Our problem is while other cars got faster, ours didn't. So now we're significantly out powered and in a lot of cases, out performed. I will agree with that yes.

Absolutely not, opinions are always valid and it's your car. I'm just saying that for a 1.3L engine, 190whp and high 14 second passes are acceptable IMO. I WANT my car to be faster, and Im embarressed whenever I cruise with my brother who owns a Challenger R/T and a 383 swapped Vette. However, I know what the RX8 is meant for and it still performs extremely well for a car of it's price point and engine displacement.

Low expectations? seriously? I dont have low expectations bro. My expectations were to have a gorgeous car that gives the feeling of a go-cart. The RX8 did more than that to the point that Im waiting to pay it off so I can keep this AND buy another "fast" car.

If it was a corvette that performed like this, then yes I wouldve been dissappointed. Its an rx8 with 238 horsepower, what did you expect?

The overall point is quit

If 0 to 60 is your thing then get a different car. Seriously.

The 8 is good at carving up curvy roads.
Right because 7500 RPM is the peak torque range. I still don't see your point though. Launching any car off the line is a tricky process it may be more so with the Mazda RX-8, but if you are used to driving stick this shouldn't be too hard to manage.

A 0-60 in around 6 seconds is very fast. That is around the same as a Porche Boxter or a V6 Ford Mustang. The engine of the RX-8 isn't very torquy but I would say that it almost fully makes up for it by being very light and revvy.

Fast or quick is an opinion, theres no 'benchmark' for what fast is. For some people a car isn't fast until it's under 10 seconds on the 1/4. For others fast is something that can beat most cars on the road.

Either way, the overall point is to know the RX8 is already close to maxed out from the factory and isn't the fastest car out there. And the lack of torque makes it seem much 'slower' than it actually is.

I just find it annoying how people bitch about the cars performance..... Its a free country, trade it in

I agree with you. My point was simply that the magazines quoting 6 second 0 to 60 times don't care about the longer term cost of all the hard launches. I prefer to keep the revs up and take advantage of the car's strengths rather than try to launch it hard.

Ren, I think he was just saying his expectations going in were high and then made a joke about hating on all 8's but his own.
