My opinion? honestly its not that much faster than my PoS FC with 160 hp (more like 120-130 ish rwhp) but RX-8 is fast enough for me to drive around. consider that it has all Airbags and all other equipment on it (the extra weight), its not bad. if you drop all the leather and airbags and other stuff, the rx-8 is a rocket. no joke.

Stop saying Camry/Altima/whatever is outrunning Rx-8, not even same type of cars. not to mention on paper, some of those car's spec is really close to some other sports car that probably cost 5-10K more. so does that mean those sports car (not just rx-8) not worth the money?

Getting a car is like getting a girl, u like her, u like her, u just have to accept everything about her, u just can't say like Hey Before we date, make urself 36D-24-36, can cook, treat me like a master, I will have access to all your money, etc etc.

Accept what the car as it is, and be happy.

Don't like it? complains? sell it/avoid it, look for something else, no biggie, right?

You can rant all you want, not gonna hurt anybody's feelings other than your own.

Agreed ?

RX-8 is a great car for what its worth-- given.

But getting your *** handed to you by a Honda Accord Euro-R is not fast at all.

Still a great car though :D

Well in my case, I revved at a cop at the stop light like 4 times and took off as fast as the RX8 could. I hit 30 mph in 14 seconds. The cop did not notice me because he took off casually and was still able to beat me by two car lengths by the time we hit the speed limit. He looked around and probably thought the noise was from a weed wacker.

That will work I guess. I was actually thinking of taking advantage of their eyesight because I heard midgets can see in the dark. I can finally have those night vision radar stuff they have in S-Classes when im going fast in my fast RX8.

Since no one else was willing to specifically point out the flaws in your posts, and I'm bored and it's late at night, I will.

1) You're assuming too much for drive train loss. Your wheel power number is potentially accurate though.

2) Very doubtful you're breaking into the 13's as I don't think anyone has done that, even with mods similar to yours.

3) You aren't hitting 172 without going down a hill. All that money you spent on mods didn't make you near enough power to go that much faster than the stock 8's drag limited speed at around 155-ish. I can see hitting over 170 with a very steep hill. Top speed is something that us nascar drivers are good at doing, so no need to debate this one with the experts.

4) What else did you do to your car? I had more done to my car and didn't spend that much if you don't count my ray's wheels...

Also, you're talking **** about nascar while you brag about your drag racing abilities? Wow.

Think I covered the more important points.... time for sleep.

RX8 will hit 172 on a dyno, you guys know that right? lol

Dont think its possible for it to do it on pavement though without serious upgrades. And who would want to anyways, simply reckless and the car isnt aerodynamically set up for it.

There was a video from a guy who did 240 km/h (around 150 mph) on public roads. Its in Germany I think (the no limit road, forgot the name)

So its doable. for a car with what 232 hp ? (180~ rwhp)

CO/drag for this car is hmm 0.31 stock? thats not too bad.

Epic thread.

Especially the post about the cop not even noticing the RX8 maxed out beside him. Gotta love our unreliable, high maintenance, slow, noisy, thirsty cars. On paper its gotta be one of the worst cars ever made

I thought our cars can go from 0 to speed of light in 12391702407120432982310498320947150725309712305120 36589012734023784017230497324890713249071290358120 35907204723597143905719057302975923432781057130572 30947813209740192734650297360591723049732094803294 8023842901841029432 seconds ?

Did the engine blow up after?

Well, it'll certainly hit an indicated 145. I did that like 5 years ago in a bone stock 2004 RX8. Same as I hit in my ex-Boxster.

Older, slower, and no longer give a **** whose what is faster.

Call me crazy, but I'm under the assumption that Torque has nothing to do with top speed, and more so with your cars abilities to stick you to the back of seat/tow things, where as horse-power is what gives it higher top speed, which also indirectly affects torque, not the other way around?

Horsepower is a function of RPM and Torque. Increasing RPM increases Horsepower.

Which is why a diesel has a falsely low horsepower but they have great speed and power when built right. Same goes for an inline six.

They would both need an increase to acheive that kind of speed. The RX8 is drag limited meaning it doesnt have enough umph to push itself any faster than 155 and isnt aerodynamic enough to go any faster with 175-185whp that comes stock.

Im not necessarily proud to say this, but back when I first got my car I went stupid fast in it (not saying due to forum rules), very close to the 'max speed' and it was scary, just didnt feel stable at that high of speeds and the car is very slow to get there. That was my last time ever attempting those kinds of speeds in this car. Not worth endangering myself and other people to attempt to prove to myself that the car is a racecar.

Couldnt imagine this car at 172

I had a funny conversation today at a stop light
Guy:"Hey does that thing have a rotary"
Me: "yeap"
Guy: "cool"
Me:"yeap"
Guy: "is it turbo?"
Me:"nope"
Guy:"oh that sucks"
Me:"yeap"
Guy:"did they fix all the problems they had with ti in the 90's?"
Me:"nope its still a rotary"

Then I drove off.
