RPM for best launch?

After doing a search, I was suprised that there was so little information on what RPM one should dump the clutch (or drop it quickly) to acheive the fastest start from a dead stop. I feel with this car, due to its high RPM, that it would make a big difference when launching at 3k RPM or 7k RPM, though little info has been provided. For someone like me, its hard to tell 2 tenths of a second difference, but I would like to know I'm using the cars full potential. Also, some car magazines claim a 0-60 time of 5.9 while others claim more like 6.5, this is a big gap, and I feel it must be due to the start. Anyone know for sure how to acheive the best launch with this car?

When i went to the track last week, i was trying different zones to dump the clutch at. I found that 4 or 4.5k is the best zone..anything higher gives you tons of tire spin, and anything lower just boggs. Hope this is somewhat helpful!

Funny you should mention...

...the 0-60 times. I just watched Speed Channel's Road & Track 2004 Reader's Choice show this morning and they track-timed the 8 at 5.9 secs. I think this is the fastest recorded time among the American mags. Anyways...

For me, I don't "dump" the clutch at too high a RPM...just a combination of fear and restraint on my part, but my best launches are at 3500 with a gradual application of the throttle once I'm away. As DBS stated, get on it too quick, or with too many revs, and axle hop becomes a BIG problem. :p

In their road tests, both Road&Track and Car and Driver mentioned that their quickest starts were achieved with dumping the clutch at ~7500 rpm. (They both clocked 0-60 at 5.9)

7500rpm isnt necessary. i have launched my car from 5000-5500 with no wheel hop.

I have read about achieving best times at both 3.5-4K and Road and Track's high 7-7.5K. However I would think that the best times would be achieved by dumping the cluth at a RPM level were the tires get enough grip and forward force without wasting energy on spinning the tires and not bogging down the engine. So you probably want to drop the cluth below the peak torque levels. Most likely between 4.0K and 5K. Either way it is a hell of a lot of fun hearing that little chirp as you fly to second gear after a fast launch.

Maybe Road&Track and Car and Driver had TCS on, so there wouldn't be any (or little?) tire spin.

Do remember when these 0-60 and quarter times are measured they are preformed on a drag strip were the group is more grippy. But I read that they test the cars with wheelspin and also some cluth slipping. You can launch the car at 7.5K but if you drop the cluth you will spin your wheel and slow your run to 60 or 1/4 down. If you let the cluth slip a bit but maintain your RPM at a high level the engine should not bog down and maximum times should be achieved . Due note that this is hell on your cluth and tranny and certainly won't prolong the life of the car.
