Ok I want to strap two surf boards to the top of my RX8. I stopped by www.rei.com and asked them what they had. I just mentioned this because all the prior threads that I have read said that no roof rack was available. Yakima has a set as follows..in all a entire roof rackset for surfboards would be ~$255.00..if you pay full price.

REI# 600-991 Q towers set of 4 (vendor#0105) $129.00 These Q towers are clamps that clamp to the roof section and the door's weather stripping would close over part of it. These also lock down so nobody can steal stuff off the top of your car.

REI#490-001 cross bars , 48" Roundbars - Pair (Vendor#0408) $50

REI# 601-006 Q clips (60x2) $25 Need these because the are specially molded for each vehicles door frame.

REI# 494-308 StrapThang (vendor#4014) $50

The salesman also showed me in Yakima large store catalog where the RX8 was listed..... and all the different parts that could go onto it.

 

Well if you do decide to go this route you'll definetly have to take some pictures. I know I'd be interested in seeing how this looks.

 

I have Yakima racks on several vehicles, they work as advertised and are a quality product. On vehicle rack systems that use Q-Clips it is important to assess how much effect they will have on the rubber door seal and possibly door alignment long term. I have hesitated using one of our racks on the RX8 because the gap where the Q-Clip must go is very tight.

 

any info about a trunck rack (sans spoiler) for luggage? There's a nice one for the Miata...perhaps an aftermarket one for the 8 soon?
