Roadside Assistance

Who does this apply to? Example I bought a 04 RX-8 two weeks ago used of course at a dealership that is not mazda. The mileage is 72000, do I get the roadside assistance? I got my carfax today and found out I have the emissions warranty thank god, my car smells like gas so yae! But on the roadside assistance part it said no data reported to carfax. . . but did not have an expiration date or anything going into detail on if I can use the roadside assist. So does anyone know if its for all mazda owners or what!?!? Please and thank you!

If you are referring to Mazda's owner roadside assistance, no, that is no longer active for your car, as it is 3 years/36,000 miles from date of first purchase.

You may have roadside assistance through another method. Many credit cards offer it, most insurance companies do, some telephone companies, etc...

HOWEVER, you said there is a gas smell?

If you recently had an engine change at a dealer, DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR, get it towed in. There are several documented cases of the dealers not replacing the primary fuel line during engine replacement, and the clip which holds it on is basically 1 time use, so it doesn't hold the fuel line attached if they re-use the line with the new engine, the line pops off, shooting gas everywhere. Usually starting a significant fire that destroys the car. Haven't heard of any injuries from this yet (thank god)

If you have not had an engine replacement recently, then you need to find out where the gas smell is coming from. If it's from the tailpipes, you should be safe to drive. If you find a leak, don't, etc...

With gas though, when in doubt, have it towed.

According to the carfax there has not been an engine replacement, but the leak thing did happen and I did have it taken car of free of charge by the dealer, but it still has that smell inside of the car. I aired it out and it went away but as soon as I put gas in it again dun dun dun the smell returns. I took the back seat out behind the driver and it looked stained from gas on the metal and smelled like it could have been coming from there, and Im pretty sure the gas tank is right under that seat so that makes since. Some ppl on here told me bad cat converter and luckly that is still covered so Im gonna give that a try.

The fuel pump is also under the driver side rear seat, so it's possible there is something wrong there as well.

You should get it checked out as soon as u can. Besides the fact that it is dangerous if you have gas leaking out of your car....... it is going to kill your MPG and cost you money.

Don't rely on carfax for engine replacements. I too had a carfax on my car, it never once mentioned the engine being replaced, but Mazda of north America says it's on it's third. Contact Mazda (I did it by email) and they will tell you what engine your on and at what milage it was changed out. They are very nice too.

Ethanol in fuel can eat through the plastics used for making fuel pumps and connections on fuel pumps. In particular if you search you will find multiple people who had small cracks and leaks having to replace the fuel pump. Its inside the cabin of the vehicle so if yours became brittle through use of E10 then cracked thats where your fuel smell could be comming from.

Ok Ill check out that fuel line, but I think that was just replaced. Is it possible from when I did have the leak, gas got onto some of the underneath and Im smelling that? Oh and I do know about the eating the gas lol gezz that thing drinks it!

The 'eating' he was referring to was the gas itself eating away at lines and pumps, etc... Standard gasoline does not do this, but ethanol does, and the higher the ethanol content in the gas, the faster this happens. It's not a big concern under E10, but it still CAN happen.

water pump failure. my dad fixed, lasted over 300 mi and then a bad knocking sound happened.
before that, we re-built the front end, and a bolt came loose and when i pressed on the brakes at 20 mph, the brakes jammed itself into the passenger front rim.
i managed to bend the steel brake caliper lol.
miss that car and its 15 mpg. now i get 12 mpg. you're telling me about it drinking gas..

im not sure what else to look for since ignition stuff has been changed out already.. pos starter too, but im sure that has nothing to do with my mpg. my highest ever was 17, and that beat my old record of 15 or so i believe. 17 only happened once

i think thats a pump problem. i was always loyal to this one station, always going there.. then when i got my 17 mpg after using litttttle bit of Chevron, then I've just got around to everywhere, and the first new place i go to, i thought it was full, it put 12 in, i drive off, like a mile down the road, its at 3/4 tank, like wtf already? haha naw it didnt get that bad.. the thing just clicked off early.. so i went back and topped it off

and wut? your fiance drives like a girl??

ha ha, no deff not. He likes to drive fast and Im pretty sure thats why he rear-ended someone. I used to get on him all the time about driving that fast in my car and he would never admit to speeding being the reason lol
