remote start - need low cost suggestions

I called my dealer because I wanted to add a remote start to my silver RX-8. I have an automatic with the grand touring package. He said the cost would be about $800. (I need to add factory enhancement -authorized passive system, plus remote start added to factory enhancement package). ouch!! He said if I didn't go that route ,my warranty could be voided because of unauthorized tampering with factory wiring. Any suggestions, workarounds, so I could get a remote start for a reasonable price?.

that sounds like bs to me
it can only void the warranty if they can prove your work caused whatever is broke not to work

800 is way too much

hey harwax. What dealership did you go to on long island? I went to wantagh mazda and got the viper responder alarm.850 installed. The aftermarket guy (i forgot his name) is a real good guy. If my memory is correct i believe they wanted around 360 for the auto-mate alarm system. Well pm me if you would like any addition info.

If you got manual, can you have a remote start? Sorry, I'm new to fancy alarms on cars.

What happens if your car is in 1st and you try to start it?

I guess you should never never leave your gear on 1st if you've got a remote start!

You can put an auto start on a manual, but like you say you have to leave it neutral. On top of that, you have to bypass the clutch safety switch (because you have to have the clutch in when you start regardless of whether you are in neutral). Some alarm companies won't do it due to liability.

If you want a toy, which is what it is unless you have to park outside during cold winters, I'd suggest you get your windows and sunroof to open via a fob (and close when arming the system). It's safer and for me, more useful. I love it :D
