Refinishing the Wheels

Ok I am thinking about having my wheels coloured black to contrast with the sunlight silver. I am looking for opinions on this, it is a GT with appearance package and I may do another kit at some point. Do you guys think it will look good? Any one good with PS want to take a silver car and colour the wheels black? All opinions welcome

hey, whats up. i did the same thing. i painted my stock wheels gunmetal. you can see them on my avaitar.

powdercoat would be the best, but it can take a week or two, so i painted.

what you do is jack up the car, take the wheels off. clean them good with dawn. then scrub them with a mild acid and steel wool, ardex makes acid mag oemwheel cleaner. then scuff them up good with scotch brite. then blow them down with air gun. now give a good wipe down with a grease and wax remover(solvent) let dry good.

now paint. i used duplicolor high performance wheel paint and clearcoat.

paint lightly. use 3-4 light coats, let 20-30 min. pass for dry time in between coats. then do 2-3 coats of clear coat lightly. letting it dry for 20 min in between coats.

then gently put them on the car after a hour of dry time. your good to go. takes like from 6-8 hours.

the key to a great end product is the prep. make sure you prep your wheels GOOD.

get 3 cans of paint and three cans of clear.

Do you really want to "paint" them, or powder coat them?

I am actually taking them to a wheel repair shop to have then cleaned up and the color changed. they do look awesome in black, thanks for the pics. The car goes in about a week from now to get it done, I will post the pics up once it is done. I am having them done in a high gloss black, then I am putting some 245's on them instead of the 225's. What is the widest tire some has run on the stock wheels, a friend said I should see if I could go wider then 245.
