redline ok after 2kmiles? yes or no?

as the topic says. i'm rather new to the forum and i've been waiting a while til i got my 8. its an '07vred/red 6spd. gt picked up mid sept. this year. i've taken all precautions for my first brand new rotary... my first brand new car at that too. i've taken my time to read the owner's manual but feel its not sufficient enough to just do 600 miles under those conditions. i'm following racing beat's break-in procedure instead. but wondering if i should hold off 9k(redline) til 2k miles or 3000miles? i've been doin 4k rpm for the first 1k miles, and raise 400rpm every 100miles. so at 2k miles, i should be hitting 8k rpm. so should i just hit 9k at 2000 miles or wait til 3000 miles to do it?

is this at all overboard? i read so many people with engine changes that its not even funny anymore. what opinions can you guys give? i'm really looking forward to this car lasting more than a piston car. without paying an arm and a leg on major service(timing belts, etc) that piston owners have to deal with.

btw, i also premix a modest 0.5 oz. to a gallon or mostly 6oz every fill up. everything helps...its been really hard to maintain myself from flooring it and feeling how those other 4ports feel like when they open.

will it really make the world of difference in longevity if i baby it now? my purchasing dealership is rather far and i rather find the flaws before having my first scheduled oil change for them to address any issues.

and as for the first oil change/maintenance, what have you guys recommended i ask the tech to check out? any tsb or recalls etc.

You can redline it after 600-1000 miles as per manual states. Its broken in and i'm sure they redline the rotary in the factory, prior to install.

You're over doing it.
8K will still get the carbon out but redlining is more fun.
Follow the manual.
Redline to keep the engine healthy.
The rotary is so smooth it's pretty easy to hit fuel cut-off if you're not paying attention.

you didnt know?

you are supposed to drive the **** out of it, preferably burning out of the dealership parking lot, for the first 1000 miles. then change the oil and drive normally.

you get more horses that way.

OR SO I AM TOLD.

:P

so i can wot after 2k then? nice... and i'm already thinking changing the oil early. for some reason i feel i should have routine changes 2k~2500 as you never get full oil drain from having 2 oil coolers. as also why i choose to use any API SM grade mineral oil. its cheaper and i could do it frequent to keep it running the cleanest fluid at all times. but, fu*k 5-20...i doin straight 30. 5-20 is ridiculous...

Yep it's not ok to redline it after 2k miles.

That's too late... you loose.

But you'll have a lot more fun now.

You are going overkill on the break-in.

Thumbs up Minimum Requirement from this point on!

No need to floor it just get it over 7.5 to 8k every time you drive it.
Especially after sitting in traffic.
And of course when it’s safe take it to 9.3k once and awhile.

The break in you have been doing is just fine.
Now You need to get into that 7k range to clear out the carbon that has built up breaking it in.

Clearing out carbon will not happen in one or two 9k blasts, it's getting over 7k
every day over time that counts.

wow! i remember RB's recommendation but read it again just to check...and around city driving, i may have been a little opposite on it by rolling around ~2k and (kinda bogging it) applying 40-50% throttle to bring up the work load...
basically trying to let the ecu know i like advanced timing in the memory.
these are constant learning computers, right?

o, btw, i changed the oil today @1,500 miles and its pretty much REALLY dark. could it be any reason related to how i'm breaking it in? somewhere in road&track or ??? magazine says it burns about 1/2 qt. in about 500 miles. and i haven't burned much more than probably ~1/3 qt.
your oil injector sprays higher amount of oil as rpm's and load increase, right? i'm assuming this is the reason its gone dark quite fast as i'm leaving the oil in the crankcase too long, cooking of the additives and not letting it being injected into the motor and refilling it more often as i accumulate miles.

what you guys think? close on my assumption?

-also it was easier for me to drop in the spoon sports magnetic drain plug on my oil pan =) but only the magnetic one meant for the honda tranny's actually fitted(its shorter). the magnetic drain plug for motor oil(its longer) was actually too long on the 8 and won't bottom.

^^WOW! did. today. ok, you can shut me up. man i floored it and i can't tell where the beep sets in. seems like @8500. it just rockets up there real fast to 9k. had the radio really low(about 4) and can hardly hear the beep. its more like a meeep.

i didn't keep it it the high range at all. so i still did it in a safe manner. not holding it there.

other than now not being afraid to floor it, i'm just gonna religiously keep the oil clean.... which is never bad.

now i'm officially welcomed to the 9k club. and it is great
