I don't know why but your reply was hilarious to me. Sorry for the unhelpful comment, laughing with you not at you.

lol I just never heard that term before. So “send it” means drive it haha ok. I just want to make sure the fluids are topped up and bled. if it won’t idle then that makes it kinda hard.

Send it also means to send ordnance down range at a target.

The 8 started with the key today but still no idle. I got two codes relating to throttle body one saying it stuck. Also took a few shots of the live data while holding rpm up so it wouldn’t stall.

Post up numbers at warm idle. Otherwise looks good.

Dave04 04-20-2018 05:36 PM

How does the exhaust sound and engine sound at say 4,000 rpm? Try holding it there for 10 seconds or so and note the tone. Is it smooth? Does it have hiccups?

it will not idle at all. I have some codes p0638 and p2112 and p2109. All related to throttle control and idle.

Oh, well if you don't have a vacuum leak somewhere then it is likely a bad rebuild. But you need to run it, sometimes the inferior rebuilds need some time to break in to the point that they idle.

I’m quite positive this guy did a good build. He’s done many and I haven’t heard any bad feed back. And I’m pretty sure I’m good for vac. It was sluggish and not very responsive today but yesterday when we bump started it it was all there (response and power). I’m going to start with the throttle body because it Doesn’t cycle open and close when I turn key to on. and it sounds stuck making a squealing or humming noise.

The humming sound may be normal. Mine does that too when the key is on and it idles fine. I don't think it cycles when key is turned on either.

What was the cure for your no spark issue?

i removed and cleaned all grounds. And added a ground on the spark plug side of engine to the chassis. That brought spark back. I’m guessing because the plugs ground out to the engine and the engine to the chassis. Well the chassis is painted by factory before wiring is installed so it wasn’t very good. Also I’m getting several codes relating to throttle body so it gotta be it.

Red line envy 04-22-2018 03:02 PM

Could it be my o2 sensor. I ordered a Denso upstream off amazon but it is throwing a code now. I only have two codes and the car now starts by key but still no idle it’s very rough when I keep it running with the throttle pressed a bit. Also it’s spitting out oily liquid from exhaust and it’s smoking a lot still. Even after having it run a few times already https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...c6b5876a2.jpeghttps://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...dace16f8a.jpeg

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...5da696044.jpegShouldn’t a low reading like that mean it should be lean. When it’s spitting oily fluid out the exhaust and seems to be running Rich and boggy
Is it normal for 02s11 witch is upstream 02 sensor to be reading in (mA)

Its very hard to hear the exhaust when your recoding in the car. The little I can hear almost sounds like it's running on one rotor?

Equivalence ratio of 1.0 means 14.7 AFR, right on the money. If it smells rich, your O2 sensor is crazy, but usually they don't hold a steady but wrong reading when failing. They'll fluctuate all over the place and not hold any reading.

The stock wideband sensor measures amperage, not voltage. 0mA=14.7AFR, so everything looks right there.

The only thing that comes to mind is still miswired injectors. I know you labelled them and all, but if it's the one thing you haven't revalidated... maybe it's time.

Have you pulled the spark plugs and read them?

Red line envy 04-23-2018 04:02 AM

Yes I’ve pulled the plugs several times. So just to be 1000% sure I’m pulling everything out down to block and inspecting everything again as I build it back up and we will see where that gets us. Thanks to all who share suggestions. It’s been so much help and we are making progress.

A good build would fire right up. I know it's hard to swallow, but it is what it is and I have seen it happen a lot with these engines. No builder likes to admit it. All you can do is hope that you can get it running well enough to build some compression and run on it's own. I have seen a few home builds that were very hard to start but they eventually got them running and they lasted a while.

But this is the reason I went with a pro.

this builder is considered a pro. He has an engine rebuilding company. All they do is rebuild different engines. They have done quite a few Wankels and I haven’t heard anything bad. (Small province word travels fast). I’m still gonna try a few things. Just to completely clear all possibilities before replacing the AFR sensor and if it’s not that then it’s the build or I’m completely missing something which I doubt lol.

Red line envy 04-23-2018 05:41 PM

What the 8 is like when started the first time. Then it’s pretty hard to get started again and it just does the same thing. I can keep it running by keeping throttle pressed a bit but if I try to rev it up it is slow and boggy.

Red line envy 04-23-2018 05:56 PM

What it sounds like in the engine bay. I took the video today

Red line envy 04-24-2018 09:15 AM

Could the knock sensor be stopping my car from idleing. It seems it could from what I read.
