Lol no. Imagine a roll of duct tape. Now make it 6 ft high and 7 ft wide. Now replace the tape with metal rolled up plate. 45-50 thousand lbs. And we load it on the curved side called a "coil"

Oh, you are talking about the load coming forward and landing in your lap. I was interpreting your comment as a visual aid to the G forces your load is experiencing to lend further assistance to keeping everything as it should be.

My mistake

Well, sometimes here in Australia Truck Drivers have pretty much no concern over safety of others. Once i was cruising along on the freeway, the speed limit was 80km/h during a tunnel, which is notorious for about 8 cameras in a 1km stretch. Now i made sure i was at speed limit, slightly over since we have a allowance of 5% on given speed.

Now up ahead 1 lane was closed, and i looked in rear mirror to see a huge *** semi trailer on that lane, pretty far behind me, so i kept at my cruising.

Next thing i know the truck shot up beside me, easily 30-40 km/h faster then the speed limit and started to merge, at this time (remember opposite side of the road), to my left there was a few cars, and a few cars behind me. I was literally at about 1/4 of the trailer and he just started bloody merging, not giving a fricken care in the world. I honked, and he just started merging faster.

Now i couldve accelerated faster then him, but he caught me by surprise, already going much faster then me. I didnt wanna gamble my life on how fast my car is ^^. In the end luckily the cars on the left saw this and made a gap for me.

When we became neck to neck further down the tunnel where the speed limit has dropped to 40km, he rolled down his window and just blasted me on how ****** in sports cars think they always have right of way.

Now that was a long story, but point is if the OP saw the truck going at whatever speed he was going at, and made a judgement on the gap. Proceeded to accelerate at a given rate without staring at his rear view. I can see a disgruntled truck driver speeding up and surprising him.

You had to say 18 wheeler in your title??? I thought I'd be looking at a seriously crushed rx8... My five years old son can do more damage than that on my R3 with his running shoes... Haven't you heard of PDR (Paintless dent removal)? Surely, you can't be serious when you say you'll have to replace parts on your car, aside from the tail light maybe...

I won't go into a debate of who's at fault here, but having been a teenage boy myself some time ago, I know how we have a tendency to drive at that age... Get my drift? King of the road comes to mind... Odds are against you!

NEVER assume the other drivers have seen you! Especially truck drivers!

You probably gave a good scare to that guy... If he had "really hit" you, you wouldn't be here today! Thank your lucky star! His reaction was just the aftermath of the adrenaline rush...

BTW, when I was 19, I was driving a beat up 10 years old Reliant K car which cost me 700$... I couldn't reach 60mph even if I wanted to... Made me safe on the road! You're 19 and driving a sports car? Stop complaining and drive safer!

And before you say it: I commute to work everyday for an hour. I've been driving vehicles since 1987 in Montreal, Canada where the national sport (aside from Hockey obviously) is road rage! People here drive like maniacs... And I've never been involved in an accident! Even with all the buses, taxis and truck drivers around! Cauz I always assume someone's out to get me and I drive accordingly! Not to say that I drive 10mph slower than everybody else... Au contraire!

To the Aussie, ******** are everywhere. I'm not saying all truckers are right and all non truckers are wrong. Plenty of retards on both sides of the fence. I drive my truck hard and fast when I can safely do so. I know my limits and my truck's with the different types of loads I haul. Different center of gravity is what you have to keep in mind. With aforementioned coil it's high and in the center meaning easy to roll. With a load of steel bars spread out on the deck the center is much lower so the west Virginia turnpike becomes a race track it matters so much in fact depending on the load type, same weight on both, there can be 15 MPH in safe cornering speeds. On 180 degree offramps for example. Hauling steel is the most dangerous form of trucking. To me and those around me.
But again, it's our job to avoid dangerous situations but very often we get forced into them with reckless drivers around us.

haha yea i get what you mean, but ever since the proposed idea to ban truck drivers here in AUS from using the outside lane, they have been driving more and more recklessly on the inside lanes to prove a point.

Lmao that's kinda punk rock actually! As long as nobody gets hurt. I wish we could get united like that here to shove it up the governments ***. People tend to forget without us you'd be laying naked in the grass starving truckers are discustingly under paid.

I guess these stories are true.
Check out this video.

So you were going faster than the truck when you merged, you had your foot on the accelerator and within 1 second an 18 wheeler sped up to rear end your car?

Sorry, but I have to agree with Ken on this situation.
