cobra's are just about the absolute worst pos detectors out there and many reports have been made about them catching on fire when in use. They dont work and cause false alarms for people with "real" detectors.

FWIW, I was considering this too and then I did some research on the ZR4. It's one of the lower rated laser jammers out there.

MA What can a cop do if you jamm him

A cop can't really do anything. Check if they are legal in your state first. I usually jam and slow down to the posted speed limit and then shut the thing off. If you want to be that guy that jams to the gun, it is hilarious, but could make them illegal. I have never ran into any trouble with mine, and I've had it for over a year now. If you have a headlight out or something the cop has the right to pull you over. The cop could write you a ticket for that, but not speeding.

My blinder m25 has jammed around 100 times in the last year and I was speeding half the time. It is defiantly worth it if there are any laser guns in your area. I have found that cities usually use them and state troopers. Small towns usually are only radar. $300 for a jammer and avoiding one speeding ticket in a work zone made mine worth it the first week.

I use a 9500i and have had it for two years now almost...I love it...haven't found the need for a jammer because even when I get hit with laser while speeding, I just slow down and I haven't had a speeding ticket in over three years (had the SOLO 2 before the 9500i...cordless ftw)

the solo 2 has significantly less range compared to other detectors. My detectors are hardwired so its not like there is any visible cord

From what I've read, lasers are governed by the FCC and legal in all states. States can only regulate the use of radar detectors.

P.S. I got kicked off of a radar detector forum for mentioning the k40 product line. Does anyone here know why that would happen?

No, the FCC governs radar while laser is managed by the FDA because it was first used in medical situations.

The only reason the difference is important is that it effects how jammers are handled.

The FCC prohibits the use of any radar jamming because it's against the law to cause electronic interference. With a radar jammer that's exactly what you are doing for the most part.

Lasers don't fall under the same guidelines because the FDA has no such laws against interference with light.

As for the k40, I believe there is a k40 radar jammer line and normally boards won't tolerate people even bringing up radar jammers as they are 100% illegal in every state. Using one is very obvious and can get you into serious trouble.

Laser jammers are much more passive in that the officer's gun simply will not display a speed. He might suspect jamming but that doesn't give him enough cause to stop you.

I imagine you were let go. Lasers are not like radar where you have a warning period. Radar guns report a signal to officers like a tone. If they don't have strong tone then they cannot get an accurate reading. Laser provides instant readings (speed of light). As such, when you get a laser warning it's already too late.

A jammer will give you time to slow down by prohibiting the officer from getting a speed reading. At some point the jammer becomes ineffective (between 500 and 800 ft) but that gives you time to slow down.

oh yeah i had it backwards.

k40 makes a radar detector-detector jammer, but thats only illegal for truckers unless detectors themselves are illegal in that state.
