I've had an Escort Passport 8500 x50 for a few years now. It has paid for itself a couple times over by now. It isn't perfect, but I rarely drive outside of my normal routes, so I pretty much know when to pay attention to it and when to ignore it. Even if I am not speeding, sometimes it is nice to know when there are cops around. If I had to do it all over again, I probably would have spent the extra $100 for a Valentine. At the time, $100 mattered.

I've owned two Bels and liked them pretty well, but both died the same death: the power cord input jacks both went fubar after about two years.
I now have a V1 and love the thing. The arrows and counters aren't just gimmicks, they're actually really helpful. I almost didn't get it because of reports I'd read about false signals. It turns out that this is way over-blown. The V1 has "Logic" and "Advanced logic" modes that let the detector decide whether the signal is an actual threat and whether to report it or not (or at a reduced sound level, depending on the mode). I thought that this would be risky but after being driven crazy by false signals I put it into Advanced Logic mode and it's worked really well. I've had it there for six months and it's been spot on. It falses less than my last Bel.
I spent the extra $39 for the concealed display. It's pretty nice to be able to have the detector blacked out at night, but the display sits down low near the lighter jack, and it forces you to take your eyes off the road if you need to read the relatively small display.
The people that have posted about detectors being anything but foolproof are absolutely right. They're not a license to drive any way you please, they just improve your odds.

i have a passport 7500 and love it. i've been wanting to upgrade for a while but i just can't justify spending the money when the one i have works very well and saves my *** all the time.
one of the things i love most about the passports are the smart cord. i have mine hardwired and mounted in between the roof liner and my rear view mirror. the mute button/warning light is mounted on the steering column which give me a visual alert when i'm playing my music loudly. a bright red LED right in front of your cluster will get your attention in a hurry day or night. i'll get some pictures sometime and post them up of the install. if you're not looking for it, you'll never see it.
