Exclamation Race 6-Puck Disc (I need your expert opinion)

Hello. I need your expert opinion.

I bought myself the Race 6-Puck Disc 1987-95 RX-7 Turbo/ RX-8 to replace my almost-worn-out clutch disc. I needed to have my throw-out bearing changed (under warranty) - so Mazda suggested that I should throw in a new clutch disc to save money in the future. Unfortunately I made a big mistake! Mazda has warned me about the disc I chose, but I was persistent and adamant that I would be able to adapt to this new clutch.

On 3rd gear at exactly 3,500rpm (37mph), I get this rattling vibration from the clutch, 4th gear at 3,500rpm (46mph), 5th gear at 4,000+/-rpm (56mph), and 6th gear when less than 50mph.

I have spoken to racingbeat about it and sent me two pieces of paper with instructions on how to set the Power Plant Platform to a certain measurement to eliminate the rattle. Mazda, then, said that it was the same manual they followed to adjust it - and adjusting the PPP was irrelevant to the problem.

Now I am stuck with this rattle at this certain RPM on different speeds depending on the gear I shifted it to. I asked a private mechanic, and was told that it was the characteristic of the clutch disc that makes the annoying ratting. He added that I just have to change the gear differently than before to match the... whatsoever he explaining. Mazda said the same thing. I am now thinking of having my clutch redone and I am thinking of getting the Stage I racingbeat clutch upgrade. Before I spent a considerable amount of money on this, though, I need your expert opinion.

IS THERE A WAY THAT I CAN ELIMINATE THIS RATTING WITH MY EXISTING Race 6-Puck Disc, OR SHOULD I CHANGE IT TO THIS STAGE I UPGRADE. WOULD I BE NEEDING A NEW FLYWHEEL SINCE THEY'VE RESURFACED IT WHEN I HAD IT SERVICED THE FIRST TIME? -or- DOES MY CURRENT FLYWHEEL STILL BE USABLE? WHAT SHOULD I DO? THIS CLUTCH SOUNDS LIKE IT DAMAGING SOMETHING!

I would appreciate your input. Thanks very much.

Paolo

You're the big moron to pick a 6 puck race disc.

From what I've read across like 10 thousand pages of info about Race Disc, thats exactly kind of rattle that you're going to get,

You simply installed something that you *dont need*

Take it out, put Regular stuff back in.

Two mechanics and the mfgr. told you how to fix it. One mechanic at Mazda said he couldn't do it it for what ever reason.

I would take to to a Rotory shop and let the Pros do it correctly.

The 6 puck does have the possibility to eat your friction surface, depends if it was made of carbon or copper or...

Thats the downside, if your not perfect with your rev matching and starts then your just going to wear the hell out of the flywheel and pressure plate.

Get the stage 2. The kevlar surface will outlast all the others and provide a very stock clutch feel, not to mention being the lightest bolt up clutch assembly available.

it isn't. not yet. i just thought that changing it with the six puck unsprung would have made it better. well -- it has made it better coz it feels a lot torque-ier, but the rattling doesn't seem worth it.

lol, dude, the rattle is fine, every freaking race clutch does that noise, i swear! just read any, really, any car forum

my friend's 240sx has a blitz active stage 2 clutch and it rattles every time he engages it at low rpms

its all good man, not going to affect your performance!

6 puck race clutch... in a car that makes 130 lb-ft of torque.
Not beating you up about it. I know you already said it was a mistake, but, damn.
