Problem with dealership

I bought an 04 rx8 on jan 2 07. Before picking it up at the dealership that day, I went and got the insurance and registration done. But when I was doing the registration, they informed me at the registries that it's a car from quebec and needs an out of province inspection. So whatever, went back to the dealership to pick up my car and they gave me an in transit sticker to drive around in until the the day came when I could come in and drop the car off.

Thursday jan 4 came along and I dropped the car off first thing in the morning. The service manager assured me it would be ready by the end of the day. So I show up only to find that they're doing some recall work and that the reason the heat wasn't working was due to a malfunctioning part called the a/c amplifier. Again he assured me that it'll be ready by tomorrow (friday jan 5). Ok, friday came around and still the car isn't ready to go and they're waiting around for some parts and now I have to wait till the weekend is over before they get back to work on it.

It's been almost 2 weeks since I dropped it off and I've lost my paitience with them. Has anyone ever encountered such a long wait for a part to come in at a dealership? Or for that matter had their car stuck at a dealership for so long? In the past, I have ordered parts for my 15yr old mx-6 from toronto and it's taken less than 24hrs. I've been driving around in a stupid civic for the last 2 weeks and the only thing nice about it is the millage I'm getting. But it does not come close to the 8 by any means.

Anyways, I just want my car back and it's really bothering me. I'm going back today to talk to the service manager.

You never took delivery of the vehicle. Here in the US(Hawaii anyway) you can change your mind and not take the car.

Never mind, You drove the car off the lot and came back at a later date
Sorry. Good luck!

I kinda did, I never registered it. I drove it off the lot and everything. The reason I'm staying on the car, is that I got it with only 8100kms on the clock for $26k CDN. And it's everything I wanted. It's rough, if I didn't like the car so much I would have gone in there and dropped the keys out and walked away.

I know that the dealership that I bought my car through has a horrible service department. I asked around on this forum and now go to a dealer that is further away, but at least they do what they tell me they will do and in a timely fashion. It sounds like once they get your car fixed you might want to look around for a better service department.

I agree with you. I went down there this morning and the problem is the time it's taking to ship the part. They're ready and willing to fix the car but can't do much without the part. So there's no one really at fault at the service department. And unforunately there's nothing I can do for a back ordered part.

I have a great dealership, just exchanged batteries with them today at no cost..
But, I was aware that there were recalls and fixes and messing about - so I did not take immediate delivery - I waited until all the stuff was done - figured it would take about a month and had it pretty much right - Let them get it all done, it will save much grief later and beside the weather is lousy right now so its a good time to use their loan car or a rental car or a banger until things settle...

If the only thing they're waiting on is the a/c amp, and the car is currently intact, go take your 8 and tell them to call u when the part is in.

Aww, thats horrible...
I havent had an issue YET, but I will soon find out (smelling something not so nice under the hood, smells like one of the belts).. we'll see what they say if I can even get them to take a look (they could win an award for their lack of interest sometimes, really).
I can say that my old car (Chev) was in the shop for almost 6wks for an engine repair.... waiting on a part... oh well, free rental car!

Bad news is the ac amplifier will not fix your lack of heat issue. They need to order the temp control assembly. This is the part behind the temp control ****. Ac amplifier is for lack of cooling from ac only...

Listen to Otherside - he does not B.S. (much), and he knows his stuff -
you might give your gang a heads up about this control assembly, or have them call the experts at Valley Mazda for advice - they work on a lot of rotarys: (805) 544-6862 - and if the dealerships can talk to each other, it will help Mazda from going the way of Ford -

I wanted to do that, but at 7F outside it takes forever for the thing to warm up with just the heated seats.

Anyways, the car is back and the heat and everything works. The only issue I have now is there was an extra 100kms on the odometer when I went to pick it up . I'm going to talk with the manager about it.
