Question Preorder?

What exactly does preorder mean? I thought I understood...

I ordered my RX8 from my dealer January 8 with a $1000 deposit.

I have not received any of the emails from Mazda, so I wrote Mazda to ask why. They said they have had no preorders from my dealer.

I asked my dealer who said I would be in the first shipment, but did not know anything about the emails everyone seems to be getting, etc.

Any thoughts? So what is the difference between preorder and someone who ordered January 8th?

that is the same situation i am in. there are a few others as well.
here is what mazda has to say:

E-mail confirmations will only occur for those who have ordered a
vehicle through a dealership as an actual pre-order. If a dealership
has placed an order for a vehcile as another type of allocation, and
has promised you that, when received, it will be reserved for you, you
will NOT receive e-mail updates. Your e-mail can not be added to any
database for inclusion as updates are only for actual pre-order
participants and is automated based on this variable.

my dealer said basically "what other kind of order can it be but pre-order since the cars aren't being built yet?".
obviously some of the dealers did not make sure they understood what they had to do for this program to work. either that or they are working some kind of angle they feel they can exploit.

i have been fighting with and going back and forth between them both for about 2 months now. mazda has apparently told the dealer away to insert the email address correctly, even though he has stated time and again that it was done right the first time.

i am still awaiting clarification from mazda about the difference between a "pre-order" and some other type of order for this car. also i asked them to clarify how the order for my car will be effected (like will it push the the delivery of the car out to a later date) by the email fix. the dealer says it will be next week before the person there that can do the fix will be back.
as soon as i get the answers from mazdausa i will post them. i hope this will help everyone concerned.

if you search my posts you will find that i end up talking about this particular subject alot in the last 2 months. there should be several snippets of emails i have received from mazda usa about this in those posts. send rx8orders@mazdausa.com an email saying what you've said here and ask them to contact your dealer to see if they can straighten things out. they are at least trying for me. no results yet though.

I'm in the same boat too- I'm just giving up, I think. As long as I get my car, I'll live. My dealer is an IDIOT though.

And welcome to the board

Ditto that... my dealer is clueless when it comes to internet things....

They should hire me to run around the country training people. I'm so personable :p

My dealer has one, yes, that's ONE, computer in the entire dealership that has internet access. And it's apparently monitored by the sales manager constantly. And NONE of the salesmen have email addresses. Makes you wonder, in this day and age.

The other dealer I talked to DID have email access, and probably would have gotten my email attached correctly, but wanted to charge me at least $2k over MSRP. So I guess it could be worse...emails, or $2k less...hmm...

it's not like i'm not going to buy the car over this. but mazda was the one that offered the pre-order program that included these updates. i dont remember seeing any disclaimer that said "you will get them unless we or the dealer screw something up". they should have just made sure that everyone new what they were doing before they went live with the website (i spelled it right this time cylo ) and they should have had some kind of plan b ready to fix it when invariably some people fell thru the cracks.

I decided to work with a fairly new (< 1 year old) Mazda dealer, who had not ever had the opportunity to work with this type of pre-order internet method before.

The Sales Manager (& owner) personally entered my pre-order, following written directions sent to him from Mazda.

As long as a dealer can read & has internet access, they should have had no problem correctly entering any pre-order.

Zoom44: I did not order until Jan. 25. My dealer was still able to attach my name an email address to my order, and I'm in the first allocation. Granted, I had to call him and tell him that my order should be linked with my email, but it did get done. There is NO reason that you should not be getting the email updates, other than your dealer is trying to work some sort of angle about the price when it arrives.... I would be careful.

Miata2rx8 - I too have been waiting for over a year for this car - had my deposit down in Jan of 2002 - and I will take nothing less than knowing for sure my order is in. IF rx8orders doesn't think your dealer has made any pre-orders then I'd be asking them to have the district folks talk to your dealer and find out what's going on. I wouldn't wait until June to wonder if you'll have a car rolling off a transport truck or not. I agree with zoom44 - Mazda should have done more to make sure every dealer who is able to sell an RX8 was trained and had the necessary hardware to follow through ahead of the program (before January). I'd ask for their Inventory Report - ask to see their allocation of RX-8s that are on order ; see if you can get them to show you, online, what, if anything, they've done. And just for the record, I don't believe the online 'orders' do anything more than send an email to the dealership. Mine didn't even have that capability - I had to directly email and call my salesperson besides make several in-person visits to make sure all is in order. I knew they would not know how to do everything - from my experience - most dealers are not yet up-to-date in the computer user arena.

when I asked my salesman about the pre-order e-mail, he said that he has an allotment of cars and one of them is mine-I have a contract on the car. Because He did not pre-order them in any one person's name we are not receiving the e-mail. I verified with Mazda that the car dealership had the 5 or 6 cars coming in May and two had the color etc that I wanted.

They'd better have two of them, Kittychester, since we ordered the same car Are ours really in the first allocation?? I'm going to run over there tomorrow and talk to my sales guy- in fact, I think I'll call him right now...

well here is mazda customer service's final word on the subject to me. i have to wait until next week to find out if the dealer got my email in. from the way i read this at this point it doesn't seem like i will get the email updates even if he does. but i will at least get the "gift":

Dear Charlie,

Thank you for again contacting Mazda North American Operations. We
appreciate the opportunity to respond in a final manner to the matter
that you are inquiring about.

Per previous correspondence, according to our records, there has not
been an RX-8 Pre-ordered for you through our Pre-Order program. In
order to receive confirmation or any other status e-mails regarding an
order, it must have been placed through this order program. Therefore,
you will not receive e-mail confirmations, and this department can not
track or otherwise advise you about your order.

We have spoken with Dan at Herzog Mieier today. He has advised that an
order has been placed for an RX-8 for you. This order has been placed
as another type of dealership allocation and Dan has advised that he
will continue to be a contact point for you regarding this order. We
have assured Dan that, although you are not part of the Pre-Order
program, we can issue you the free gift that the participants will
receive. Upon delivery of thte vehicle, please arrange for Dan to
contact Mazda to request that this gift is sent to you. Please note
that ONLY after you take delivery of the vehicle can this be done.

We have confirmed with Dan that any further concerns can be directed to
him and that if there are any matters that require Mazda assistance
(for example with information about changing the color of the RX-8 that
you ordered), that he has access to a Mazda representative in the field
to direct him. As the matters involved in your inquiries will now be
best handled at the dealership level, any further e-mails to this
department will be documented, without response, for corporate record
only.

We thank you for your decision to order an RX-8 and regret that the
type of order that you placed was not initially clear. We hope that
this information is helpful.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been our pleasure to
assist you. If for any reason this response has not completely
satisfied you, please feel free to reply to this message. You may also
contact our Customer Assistance Center toll-free at 1-800-222-5500.

Please take a moment of your time to give us your opinion about our
e-mail service. Click the link below to complete a brief, online
survey.

and you know the dealers should have had to place their "stock"orders in a different way or had to wait until after a certain time so that our pre-orders could have been done correctly. if customer service won't talk to me maybe i have to go over their heads to get any more answers? i hate to do that but i dont see what else i could do if i have any more problems. (and this one is not really solved yet )
