If you wanted to get technical lol, 1.8QTs...Almost 2QTs of oil from Low to Full.

Much differnt from most cars...Low to Full and an average car...means 1 qt.

Before I go and do something stupid (I haven't had to deal with oil before if that isn't obvious by now), if the oil is sitting half-way between the low and high marks on the dipstick would it be fine to add to it? The oil light came on and off while driving (not stopping) today. I picked up 1qt today to use for that and hopefully it'll help the situation.

As long as its the same weight and brand oil, its perfectly normal to top it off with fresh oil. Just add alittle at a time and keep checking it untill its full.

How many miles do you have on this oil? If it's close to 3K or more make an appointment to show the dealer. As long as you have checked it and know for sure it's above the low line. They will have to change the oil pan and oil anyway. Or you can just leave it like it is, you know why it's coming on earlier then it should. It's a warning light letting you know the level of oil not low oil pressure. I worry you might get comfortable with the lite on and forget about it so get it fixed.

The oil is at about 4000 km (~2500 mi) in. I scheduled an appoint a week ago for my oil change for Aug 7th. I'm usually pretty pro-active about getting maintenance done, usually booking the services weeks in advance.

I looked at my VIN again today and realized I misread and its not actually in that VIN range for that service bulletin! But that could still be the problem, the VIN isn't too far off, just maybe not a common problem on other other 8's? Or maybe there is a range of VIN's for the US and a different set for Canada?

Anyway, I'll just top off the oil for now. They used QuakerState Peak Performance 5W30, but on the service receipt it has a "DR" beside it. Anyone know what that means? I picked up QS Peak Performance 5W30 "Advanced Durability". DR = Durability..?

well part of the maintenance on this car is keeping that oil topped off!

Well its a good thing I've only had it for 3 months now, instead of always running it like this. Better I learn this now than never, right?
