Viper 5901
i just bought a viper security system (5901), but my question is, is there anything else i need?
i hear there might be something i need in order to do the remote start feature (especially on the MT, and i know not to leave the car in 1st [already dont])
i am debating on the proximity sensor but then i thought if im in a grocery store or some kind of parking lot it might be (overkill) or annoying if someone is just putting stuff in their trunk if they are just parked next to me

you should have spent the extra 2 hundred and gotten the one with the lcd remote. i have the sensor you are speaking of, but i can turn it off simply by pushing lock twice. but thats rare for someone to know how to do. the guy i go to installed the top of the line viper with a few extras for 670. pretty much the price of the system. and did a great job. i love the viper, having the cool down feature is great for those short trips when the engine isnt fully heated. sorry i dont know more about that particular system. and just make sure that they hook it up so that the e brake is used as a kill switch, (that's how mine is) so that if its down, the car just wont start with the remote. and you should prob disable the engine monitor, i had to because of how difficult it is to set, and the difference in the rpms we get when cold starting. if you want to know more just ask. some of that was prob confusing.

because i have the one with an lcd remote and a regular button remote
this one
okay, i understand the kill switch, but i was wondering is there some extra module i need in order for the remote start to work properly? because i have been searching around and other cars need some kind of extra bypass module (around $80) to get the remote start feature to work, but when i was looking online, i could not find one for the mazda brand, or should i say one specifically for our RX-8s

didnt read the other posts because im in a hurry, but if your car is an auto and you want the remote start feature you need to buy a "key holder" for the alarm... and obviously a spare key to put in it. This key holer hold the chip in the key close enough to the snesor to allow the remote start to well start, without the key in the ignition

the only thing im disappointed about is that i cant find an installer to connect the remote start. for some reason they all say that they cant do it because of safety or liability reasons
also i have the tilt sensor and the proximity sensor installed! bad ***!
the only problem i have now is that my installer cant figure out how to wire the lights to the alarm. like when the alarm goes off, the hazard lights are supposed to blink but he cant seem to figure it out. anyone who has it installed, if they can help me out on this. my installer said he would try to find out but he hasnt gotten back to me yet. he said to contact him within two weeks.

well i have a manual and i want to use remote start because i dont put it into gear when i park.
plus i thought that even if you put it into gear, wouldnt the Ebrake prevent it from going anywhere? i thought the worst that can happen if i had remote start would be the car jerking forward, but i dont think it would roll down a hill or down the street like some of the shops say.

I installed one in my wife's Mazda 3, if you're handy you could figure out how to hook up the remote start part of it. You'll need a bypass for the chip in your key:

That's the one I used for her 3. It took a while to get it programmed right (and it was really frustrating) but I got it working. If you've got the installers diagram for the viper and the schematic for the 8 it shouldn't be all that tough. That said, you could mess up your car pretty bad if you do it wrong, so don't try it if you're not confident.

I got a hold of every shop manual for the rx8, so I think i'll be fine lol.

I may be wrong because i am no expert whatsoever but i think if you try to auto start a manual and its in gear, it will keep trying to start and failing causing flooded engine, jerking foward, and a funny sight haha...

i have the express kit for the bypass and the spare key was in it ready to go, but the installer refused to do it.
