Please marbles get out of my car.
There hasn't been a lot of activity for the marbles in a blender threads for the past couple of months. I don't know if someone has found the answer of just given up. Here are my details... I have a 06 black mt with sports package. I bought the car with 0 miles on it and I have had the marbles sound since day 1 and now I have almost 19000 miles on it. I also try to redline my car atleast once a day with 50% highway 50% city.
The sound comes from behind the glove box, from what I can tell, and starts around 6k to redline. There is no power loss or hesitation, and it does not matter what brand/octane the gas is. The sound is the same no matter if its in gear or out and has nothing to do with the engine load. I think this is the most common scenario from what I have read in the forums.
I have also read that this might be caused by air in the heater core. If this is true how do you remove it? Some have said it might be the intake sdais. If this is true why is it a constant sound unless the flaps flutter when operating. Or maybe its a loose heat sink?
I'm just so tired of showing off my car and then my passenger ask me what the hell that sound was. The engine sounds so awesome in all its 9k reving glory until this horrid sound drowns it out. I was just hoping that if we all put up out details someone will have an epiphany.
Thanks ~Josh

I feel for you. I test drove and almost bought a used '06 Shinka that had that problem. My instinct was to take out everything from the glove compartment because it sounds like a rattle from inside there.

Ok, I have a 2004 Mt with 44k miles and I have to say that my car has never made this marvel/rattle noise. What I do hear is a sucking like sound coming from the front middle of the engine bay. Almost sounds like a turboed car when it changes gears. I get it at the beginning when I accelerate and its hot outside. Mine actually sounds kindda kool. I don't mind it at all. Hopefully its not anything bad.

I got heater core answer from the dealer. However if it's a normal sound then why does it not happen to every single RX8 that has been made?
Mine is exactly like the OP about 6-9k you can hear it. It's worse when the engine has just reached operating temp. If I redline it or let it sit in the 6-9k range for a bit it gets a little softer but that's about it.
It's my only complaint with my car so far, not being able to hear the sound of the engine between 6-9k due to what sounds like a bunch of sand in a whirlwind vacum cleaner.
I really need to video mine and put it on youtube one of these days.

I wonder how many people who have described this noise of the 6k+ rattle have got their dealer to run a pcm check. I had 19 misfires in the last 10 drives. That is the cause of the noise. The solution I do not know, and my dealer didn't really have an answer as of yesterday. I have heard 2 things, One a heater core, or Two the coil plugs. If you hear this sound. I bet it is a MISFIRE!

I got my car back today, they replaced the coils, saying if it wasn't that then they don't know what. At first the car didn't seem to have it, but all that really happened its that I don't hear it at 6k now I hear it at 7,500. So, I don't know what to tell you all, and the dealership definitely has a IDK attitude.

I think a lot of people are confused as to what this really is. Yes, the rotary makes a lot of weird noises.
But this noise comes from the GLOVE COMPARTMENT, not the engine. It literally sounds as if someone put marbles in your glove box and they start rattling at high rpms.
I test drove about 6 or 7 RX8s, and only one had this problem. There is no way it's normal.

Amen to that! Its not coming from the engine. And if it was a misfire or detonation there would be a power loss involved. Someone did a poll on this and only 70% of the owners on this forum claim to have it so it cant be a normal thing, and everyone who has taken it to the dealers has had the i don't know response.
..... omg! This is one of the other 30% that don't have it and claim they do just because its the cool thing to do.
