Phantom Options

I have seen pictures here and there and read articles that show/mention the following:

1. Chrome Fuel Door
2. 6-Disc CD Changer
3. Rear Deck Spoiler / Ground Effects (Not the MazdaSpeed stuff)

Has anyone heard anything about whether these are actually going to be available options that are either going to be on the car from the factory or available after delivery?

The option's descriptions are to say the least a little "VAGUE" on the RX-8 web site.

I mean come on "Premium Bose Audio" is sort of a broad description of the that option. I would have thought it would have been more like 6 Disc In-Dash CD Changer, 9 Speakers etc. Something to narrow it down a little on what we will be getting.

Quick, I've already emailed Mazda in regards to the stereo and standard equipment. Right now it looks like a 6 disc indash changer with the 9 speaker setup as the upgraded unit, but as for the base I'm not sure.

I'll let you know when I find out

Herc-

When you say upgraded unit do you mean that if I got the Grand Touring then I got the 6 Disc?

Thanks for the info ahead of time.

That's how it looks right now... But I'm waiting on email confirmation for that

As to the exterior upgrades, I think most of those will be dealer installed options. Personally I like the car stock moreso and will be leaving it like that, with the exception of maybe adding a lip spoiler.

I have a call into my dealer regarding my initial post so hopefully I will be able to answer my own questions by weeks end, but I was hoping someone from the group, like you, had already started down that road. Thanks again, I will post if/when hear anything for sure.

Regarding the Stereo, is there going to be an option (please) that will allow the cd player to read mp3 encoded disks? Does anyone know?

Stereo

In Japan you can choose the modular head unit. From memory it's either a 6-disc in-dash changer or a 1-disc unit + either MD or cassette + radio obviously. Packages are a bit different in the US it seems but there is an option for an MP3 player here which I intend to take - however there are no details on what it is or how it works yet.

The fuel door and wings are all dealer options you can put on the car after. Initially I liked them but think I'm going to stay stock now.

There are a range of funny options out here, like a remote control to start the engine from your house (!), parking sensors front and back etc.

I don't know how cold it gets in Tokyo but here in Pennsylvania, USA it is about 6 degrees Farenheit. A remote control starter would be a more that welcome option.

The 6 disc in-dash unit will be available and it is very nice. Much better than the cartridge type changers. I have a similar factory Bose unit in my 626 ES V6 5spd and I love it. At the time I bought my car only a couple of other models came with this option and both of them were luxury brands. I had considered buying a Mazda unit (~$500) and installing it in my wife's ML430.

Regarding the chrome gas door, it looks terribly cheap. only slightly better the sticker units you can buy at a speed shop. I thought I would really like it, until I saw it in person at the Detriot show.

Question

I thought I read someplace that even the base stereo will have the 6 in dahs feature. I am not sure about this, but I did read it on here... so it has to be true. :p

I also emailed Mazda about the CD-changer, and got the following response:
In regards to your question, a CD-changer is not available for the Bose Premium Audio system. Accessories are still under development at this time, but there will be an announcement made in March with more information.
That response came this morning after an email sent to rx8orders@mazdausa.com.

The dealer (which I admit doesn't know as much as we do) had also gone to "six different people" to find out that the CD changer would also be an option later, but not available on the first US-bound cars.

Seems kind of silly to me.

As far as the other items - fuel door and ground effects/spoiler -- I'm wondering if they will be accessories available from your mazda parts shop, where you can overspend all sorts of extra money to get them after the purchase of the vehicle... (I do like the spoiler and little fins a bit, though)

Per the GO AUTO Laguna Seca write up:

"So what do you get for the money? Six airbags, for starters, plus dynamic stability control, cruise control, power windows/mirrors, limited-slip differential, six-CD audio, automatic climate control and 18-inch alloy wheels/tyres."

I got the same email reply from Mazda saying that at this time the 6CD changer is not available with the Bose system but that accessories were still under development and that Mazda was very interested in our input. Claims our e-mails are being sent to the decision makers and an announcement will be made in March regarding accessories. Let's hope they get the message. Seems rediculous not to offer a 6CD changer in this vehicle. Should be standard equipment, or at least be standard with the so called premium Bose system.

I have emailed Mazda on the same stuff. Their first responce was that the 6-disc was not available. Then when I asked for what would come they replied that the 6-disc is a part of the Premium Audio System. As for the rest of it he is still working on it. Supposed to get back to me this week but I imagine it will be next week. I think their are a lot of questions that the email support don't have answers to so they are having to forward them back to Japan to get responces. I believe the 6-disc is included based on the pictures I have seen (in certain picts you can see a "6 DISC ((((((" on the left hand side and just below the CD slot). I will post their final responce when it comes in.
