I have a velocity red 8. I hit a coyote in February 2005 and had to have a new front bumper cover and various plastic parts replaced. I had the work done at my insurance co's preferred shop - the local Ford dealer body shop. I got the car back in four days and cannot tell whether they painted just the bumper or blended it across the hood. Seems a perfect color match. Nothing was mentioned about color formula or the number of coats. I wonder if that story about matching problems was just smoke & mirrors to cover some other snafu on the repair shop's part.

Had my rear bumper replaced in March. In and out in two days. No mention of any problems by the CarStar shop.

I just had my velocity red bumber replaced and painted. It was a tri-coat paint process. they had to paint it twice as it did not match the first time. The had to blend in the fenders. The process requires three different paints.

I've had the front clip replaced and painted, and the entire driver's side repaired and repainted (with a replacement rear door). In and out in one day for the bumper, 5 for the side. No mention of any problems. Brilliant Bllack.

I remember that after the plant fire, that mazda would be switching over to a new paint process. Possibly this tri coat system

Does anyone know why they switched to a 3 coat? Is it for durability? My front end is really rock chipped.
