cell phones

just out of curiousity, where do you guys keep your cell phones when you're driving? so that you can hear/see that it's ringing?

in my mx-6, i'd keep it in the little cubby under the e-brake, but the rx8 doesn't have one. I like to keep it in the cupholders, but i also like to have an arm-rest.

anyone have a "usual" spot?

Usually I just keep it on my belt. If it's going to be noisy for some reason I'll put it on vibrate.

Mine usually rides between the sun-visor and the roof. If I need the sun visor for some reason (not common as I'm pretty tall), then the phone goes on the seat between my legs.

good question! I ran into the same dilemma. Usually in the center console....I miss most calls.

I keep mine in the "ashtray" next to the cig lighter since I don't smoke. I've had my music up pretty loud but I can still hear it ring.

I use the ashtray. I can see it light up if someone calls me because I keep it on vibrate all the time. Cell phone rings annoy me now.

I keep mine in my pocket. I don't really mind missing calls while I drive. If I was to put it somewhere in the car, dollars to doughnuts I'd forget it when I got out. Then I'd might miss a call which is much easier to answer.
I've found it awfully difficult to use my phone while I drive. With a manual transmission, driving red light to red light, I need to keep one hand on the phone, one hand on the stick and one hand on the wheel. I can steer pretty well with my left thigh, but the clutch monopolizes this leg, and the right leg is busy with the gas pedal.
So I end up being one extremity short to safely use my cellphone in the 8.

I use the circular openings in the console, which have been rumored by some to be cupholders (anyone who ever tried to put a cup there knows better). My Motorola V60 has such a quite ring (even on the loudest setting), that no matter where I put it, I usually cannot hear it. I will look at it periodically to see if anyone has called.

I leave mine on its belt clip and "clip" it on my sunvisor.

Have you considered using a headset with your phone?

In between the driver's seat and center console, in front of the seatbelt clasp, on top of my wallet. On vibrate I can feel it on my leg and it's the perfect distance for my hands-free cord.

I have considered a headset, and determined it's not my style. The over-the-head kind smashes down what little hair I have left on my head. The ear-clip/stick-mic kind never felt quite right on the ear, and the stick-mic moves all around when you move your head. My least favorite is that ear-bud/drop-mic on a wire that you can't tell is a headset. I can't tell you how many times I've turned to answer someone's question, only to find out it's some jerk on a cellphone barking as loudly as a drill sargeant because their mic is somewhere around their right shoulder. Not my style.
I personally think everyone has the right to be non-accessible sometimes. I prefer such quiet time to be in the 8 (with the Bose cranking at level 16).

i just got a new phone with bluetooth (LG-PM325 for sprint) and i'm picking up a bluetooth headset today.

i can just plug the phone into the charger, close the console, and clip the headset on. no wires. if someone calls, it rings through the headset and i can look down and check the phone (if i really need to) and answer it through the headset, with no issue.

problem solved

I run a hands free kit. The phone is usually in the belt holder and clipped to my seatbelt positioned to where I can actually hear it ring (out of the path of the airbags)

I installed a velcro CD holder that wraps around the sunvisor to put CD's in -- I found that it also works GREAT for a convenient overhead place to CLIP my phone to since you cant clip it directly on the visor (too thick)....cheap fix and holds CDs too!

I find the most practical is to take "velcro tape" and put a small circle on the top of the dash - the hook type. Put the loop velcro on the cellphone carry case. You just stick the phone on the dash - easy to hear, easy to use a bluetooth or wired headset. If you find the right case, you can even operate the phone.

I say put the hook side on the dash because if you put it on the phone/phone case it will aggrivate you any time you touch it.
