Opportunity to buy MS 8.

There's a car dealer here selling an authentic mazdaspeed rx-8 with all the body parts. There are only a few here in Malaysia and is only a bit more expensive than a normal rx-8. I had many things on my mind though.

-The car has very little groud clearance (about 10 - 12cm?) and in malaysia road conditions and speed bumps are real shitty.
-The car has a lightened flywheel right? That would make it harder to drive and it would make my dad and I real bastards because my mom probably can't drive it.
-Reliability issues unknown. Just afraid that it doesn't have an up to date flash. Anyway it's my dad's money not mine.

Body parts make an RX-8 'authentic'? I would think engine and suspension upgrades should make it authentic, like the way the Mazdapseed Miata and 6 do.

In my book, simply bolting on body pieces and calling it Mazdaspeed is lame.

I dunno, it seems authentic because the dealer imports ferraris, porsches, lambos, you name it. If it is indeed not authentic, they've done a good job from what I can see.

Well--suspension goodies and bodykit are all nice--but I don't think I'd spend the money on one without a decent HP increase over stock.

There was an "authentic" Mazdaspeed 8 in Japan. It had upgraded suspension, lightened flywheel, and a few other goodies including the bodykit. I personally think it would be cool to have and is a better can then a regular rx8. These guys are just jealous that we cant get it over here.

I think the Japanese MS8 pushes out around 250hp.
The US version is apparently going to be significantly higher?

The stock Type-S in Japan is rated at 250ps (247 hp). The MS8 isn't rated by Mazda, but is guessed to be slightly higher than the stock 250ps. With the MS engine management unit, lighter flywheel, MS sport exhaust, MS air cleaner, shorter final drive, and upgraded suspension, it is certainly faster. And yup, our US MS version is suppose to be FI with even more hp.

zryan is in Malaysia, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's an authentic Mazdaspeed RX-8 imported (or grey market?) from Japan.

Yup, its the grey market (or brought in by a grey importer). They don't have warranty, but they claim they have excellent mechanics for all they're cars.
