i'm guessing the insurance thing is he only had liability insurance. Which on a valuable car is a silly proposition for cost savings.

I had to drive in and out of Boston three times this past weekend in torrential rain, at night. It really is difficult and requires extra vigilance. And of course no excessive speed. No tires, even those very good in the rain, can overcome the heavy stuff.
