OEM cd player doesn't read mp3 CDs?

I can't believe it doesn't read mp3 files.
oem cd players in general cars read mp3 files since 2005.
I have 2006 rx8 GT and I was surprised that it doesn't read mp3 files.

Anyway, I searched and found that there are some solutions.
But still not sure what is the best way.
what is the cheap, easy way for aux?

Some of our cars have minidisk and even tapedecks!
Search and you will find what you need.

I have an '09 with 6-disc multichanger and it still doesn't read MP3 CDs. As far as I know, only the premium sound system does.

There is a aux in mod.
Or just get a metra kit with a new deck.

you can "hack it, look for it in DYI" for 5 bucks, or you can buy an ipod adapter for like 90 bucks.

you can do what I did and replace the OEM cd player with the Mazda Mp3 cd player.

no, Mazda makes 3 different units
- OEM single disc
- 6 disc
- MP3 cd player - single disc

I debated getting the 6 disc but determined that I'd rather have the mp3 cd player instead.

I tried the FM transmitter on my iPod... SUCKED because I had no free channels.
I ended up purchasing the Axxess iPod adapter and it works great.
You can even use the control on the steering wheel and it displays the MP3 tag on the LCD.

I bought mine used here on the forum.

Also, the factory headunit's firmware revision must be 9.55 or greater.
The unit will not work on earlier firmware revisions or with 9.81 or 10.01.
To find out which revision your Mazda RX-8 has, make sure the radio (FM) is turned on, then press and hold "TEXT."
Then, also press and hold "1" at the same time for a few more seconds.
The LCD should then report your firmware version.

i am pretty sure my 09 gt does... Premium package 6-cd changer... I says mp3/wma... Thought i have never used it because It has aux port my my mp3 player. Which is great, no more fm transmitter... Man, even the bluetooth is nice to have... Makes me want to install said solutions in other car. I use an fm transmitter, though it works well, it is still more trouble.

Good luck!

Jon,

Could you please verify the following for the Axxess unit:
- how many playlists does the Axxess support on the iPod
- are they named in some way like "P01", "P02"?
- does the playlist name show up on the display?
- what is the maximum # of songs supported per playlist

Thanks
