Is this normal for a manual?
I was accelerating onto a highway in 3rd gear, and once I was going about 70, I went to shift into 6th, and the gears grinded when i went to put it into 6th.
I'm 100% certain that I had the clutch fully depressed, and I was wondering if this sounds like a problem with the clutch, or should I not shift directly from 3rd to 6th?

what RPM were you at?
Has your transmission grinded before or was it a one-time thing?
how many miles on your car? what year?

Please tell me you were not pressing down on the shifter, thus telling the transmission you were wanting to go into reverse. You should be able to shift from 3rd to 6th any time you want.

no, I wasn't pressing down on the shifter :D
I think I was at around 5,500 - 6,000 rpms.
04 with 9k miles on it. I bought it used with ~8k miles on it a little less than a month ago.
I've had the problem twice before going from 2nd to 6th @ 60mph after a fun start, but the second time it happened I just figured going from 2nd to 6th was maybe too drastic of an rpm difference, and I now started going 2nd->4th->6th on high RPM accelerations. But when it happened going from 3rd->6th, I started to question if it was a problem or not, since I figured a lot of people use 3rd to pass on a freeway, and then jump back to 6th.

stop skipping gears

You hurried the shift, most likely, and it doesn't help that you were doing a 3-gear skip as well.
If it does it a lot, it's somethign to worry about. If it does it every once in a while, it's you.

If you shifted too quickly you might get a bit of a grind because the synchromesh trying to match a higher rpm (in 3rd) to a much lower one (6th). You need to take your time on the shift to let the engine rev down to a lower speed. This will smooth out the shift and save your synchromesh.
I am also going to assume that you shift from 3rd to 6th to save gas.
HA HA HA!!! THat's FUnNY!
