Question no shift "beep"???

Before I got my car, one of the coolest features I read about was the beep heard when one hits the redline. Then I got the car, had a blast driving it, and forgot all about the beep. I tried it out tonight, and hit 9500 RPM and there was no sound! Is it possible to turn it off somehow or something? (I got it used and perhaps the previous owner did that?) Is it supposed to be loud? I had the radio on pretty low, but I'm pretty sure if there was supposed to be an audible beep I would have heard it. Whats going on?!?!

it is not very loud at all. if you had the radio up at all you missed it between the exhaust and lovley rotory noise.

turn radio off, roll up windows. and look at the tac.

^^ agree. Sometimes I miss it when I've got the radio on--even when I AM listening for it. It's very faint.

what i discovered today while accelerating on an on-ramp, its much easier to hear the beep in 2nd than it is in first. shifted at around 9200 in first, and didn't hear it, but when i got to 8500 in 2nd low and behold, there it was clear as a bell (or beep)... then shifted at around 9000 and was up to a speed where i could safely merge into the slow lane (people drive a little fast in georgia).

If your radio was on at all, your AC blowing above the 1 setting, or your window was open, you probably wouldn't hear it. It's not a beep, per-se, it's more of a high pitched chime.

I barely ever hear it, I really gotta listen to it to hear it at all...even then sometimes I miss it. I wish there was a way to make it a little louder.

theoretically there is a way...it involves opening up the dashboard, locating the buzzer, removing it and replacing it with a louder buzzer. so far i don't know of anyone that has actually done it though.

Ahh thanks. you think they would make it louder by default though...being that it only occurs when you're 3 feet from an engine whirring at 8500 RPM.

Do I hear a new DIY in the works?!?!

You guys must be in a bad way.. I am almost totally deaf and I can hear that beep much easier than I can hear the engine.. Maybe Aussie cars come with extra loud beepers??

I was watching some best motoring videos with the latest FD, and their rev buzzers sound exactly like the RX8's.......

A buddy of mine picked up an FB a few months ago, and he picked me up from work in it. At my insistence, he did a couple quick donuts in the parking lot--when that buzzer kicked in, I nearly jumped out of the seat!

Peace

I heard that for 2007 mazda is replacing the beep with a voice that says "Slow down, Idiot" Then the car will call Mazda HQ's computer system and list your warranty as branded.

And I heard that in 2008 mazda will be declaring bankrupcy after making engines that break when redlining with no warranty repair...and in 2009 in an attempt to get out of bankrupcy they made a rev limiter at 5k so people won't blow up their engine by revving to the normal redline.

Ah, but all the engines will then suffer carbon lock and die. Such a quandary! Damned if you do and Damned if you don't!
