New Shinka Owner and '06 Shinka Production Data Inquiry

Acquired a new ‘06 RX-8 Shinka over the weekend...and am quite pleased thus far.

I am not new to the Mazda experience, having had an ’82 RX-7 and an ‘03 Miata SE....as well as my current ’06 MX-5.

Based on my research, I acquired the last of the new ‘06 Shinkas available (as listed on the Mazda website)...at least in California. I am VERY pleased with the package, from the performance attributes to the interior and exterior appointments. Even though it was just recently purchased, the ride home from the dealer was a long one (over 375 miles), so much of the handling characteristics were tested...many out of necessity. The Galaxy Gray RX-8 colour scheme also goes very well with my Copper Red MX-5.

I do have a general inquiry of whether there is production data available for the ‘06 Shinkas as there is for the ‘05’s. If anyone has any information available or a link to the ’06 data I’d be most appreciative with any response given.

I have Galaxy gray 06 also. Bought it 11/06. Just turned 4000 miles. Areo pack,6 speed, spoiler, sunroof, and has the tan alcantra interior. I just wrote Mazda with a production request. Hope they write back.

I'm an 06 Copper Red Shinka owner. As most are aware supposedly there were only 1500 made. There was a thread here but now gone. It listed production dates by VIN, but not colors..If they divided the 1500 equally by 4, there's 375 of each color.

Gray06 you are on the right track. GL.

The word "shinka" means progression in Japanese. Basically, the "shinka" package is worth around an extra 6000$. It's the best of the best quality from the interior, to the shocks, to trims, to small parts, etc. I personally owned one and was pretty pleased with it, however, the parts are very expensive as I found out after I wrecked it. Be careful, and when something goes, you're going to be digging into your pocket. And to answer your question, yes they are special. they are one of a kind, there were 2857 made for the United States during the years 05'-06'. Hoped I could be of assistance.
