hey Chris, welcome to the CULT!!! Errrr...I meant "club"
Glad you're enjoying the car so far, it's a fun little machine.

I guess the best advice I can give you at this point is to learn as much as you can about this car, enjoy it for what it is, and don't hesitate to ask any of us should you encounter any issues.
As for this site, I think you'll find that pretty much ANY question you can think of has been asked at some point and using the search function (towards the top right) can really make life easy for you.

What kind of car did you have before? What made you decide on the 8?

There are quite a few active members in the FL region so check out the regional subforums as well.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Im pretty familar with the forum life. Im a pretty active member on some bike forums, hense my reply to your question about what i drove before- I had a 2008 Triumph Daytona 675 Special Edition, it was my 3rd bike. Bought it Jan 24th, an wrecked it March 22nd. My insurance company and GAP company finally paid it off, which led me to the RX8. To be honest this car was not my first choice, my first choice was an S2000. but after driving the RX8 i didnt even bother going to the honda dealership Im not sure what my plans for the car are, the exhaust sounds pretty sweet, i like the pur but i think im going to have to rip it off an put aftermarket on. Maybe some aftermarket rims next year. Other than that a nice system in the trunk an the car will be complete in my eyes.

Question tho: Are there any known issues with these cars? Anything i should keep an eye out for? Also, my 6 disc "load" button doesnt respond when i press and hold it to load cd's.. Im going to have to bring it back to the dealership for that though. Im gonna have to browse the forum for some pics of everyone's cars, im curious to see what they look like all done up like im sure some of you have done, i bet they look sick.

My buddy rides a Triumph Daytona! Yellow with a Union Jack flag painted on the front. He had the paint job done after he tipped his bike and needed to replace some panels.
I was looking at a few different cars but after driving the 8, I was SOLD. Ordered my car and waited impatiently while it got here.

If your car is a Manual you GOTTA check out the AFE Short Shifter, an absolute MUST for our cars. You think the shifting feels great now??? You haven't seen anything until you've put that Short Shifter in. Shifter height stays the same, even reuses the shift ****, just the travel distance between gears is dramatically reduced. Gives you that Bolt-Action rifle feel to it.

Exhauts: check out the exhausts exhauts exhausts thread by speeddemon32. Easy to find in the search field. Racing Beat's exhaust is the most popular / subtle. Mazdaspeed's is nice, Borla is probably the loudest.

Known issues / problems: flooding used to be an issue but recent updates to the ECU flashes have helped curb that. (along with mazda upgraded starter, battery, and plugs. all covered under warranty)
Check your oil often, you will burn some up.

Want a siiick stereo??? Check mine out. I yanked out the bose system, added some bass and kept the stealth look. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/jedis-bose-stereo-upgrade-103771/

Do you have a 6 disc changer?
I have the load button, but only a single disc CD

As for things to look out for . . . .. .

Always warmup the car before shut down.
Keep an eye on the oil. (oil injected engine, they are supposed to burn a little)
and redline it every now and then to keep the carbon from building up - Yes, that is correct, you are supposed to run it out every now and then as a part of the general maintenance

good point Rgl: make sure you actually have the 6 disc. The 04 came with 3 different options for the CD player.

- Standard single disc
- 6 Disc
- Single disc player capable of reading mp3 CD's. (dealer only option, kinnda rare)

Right above the slot to insert discs, do you have a small icon showing the 6 disc changer logo? should be to the far left or far right above the disc loader

Well on the sticker that was on the window from the dealership it said 6 disc cd player as one of the options... so im assuming it has it but is possibly broke? Why would they put a 'load' button with no 6 disc lol? kinda weird, they also have to check the rotors, the car shakes under braking, which leads me to believe the rotors are warped, also there is a small spot of paint underneath the driver side mirror where the paint is peeling, so their gonna take a look at that too and see what they can do, if they wont fix the paint im not gonna sign the paperwork for the car, the paint will just end up spreading down my whole door *ghetto*.

I got the car for $14,500 then added the extended warranty on it- $3000, and GAP insurance for 750.... With tax tag title an all that good stuff it ended up being $20,365 out the door.

Im just a little concerned with the 50k miles on the engine. the car runs as smooth as butter, but 50k miles is still a tad bit high and kind of has a sour taste in my mouth which is why i got the warranty (i can also extend the warranty to 130k when i get closer to 100k miles).

I only have 1 pic as of right now, ill get some more soon enough.

The dealership will pay you the difference between the value of a single and 6-disc changer. (if it really is a single) it falls under 'false advertising', and they would rather pay the difference instead of you coming after them legally.

Just FYI -

Cancel your warranty and get it somewhere else.
GAP is only $199
and a warranty should be about $900

Great advice from the "legends" around here.

I'll simply add that changing out the ambers to clear corners will really improve the look of your silver 8 and it's cheap.

Car looks beautiful and ready to roll.
