New RX8 Mysterious ipod cable

Hey everyone I just bought an RX-8 yesterday and I am in love. I've been on the forums for about a week looking around and reading everyones hilarious post and stories. I also read about the different head units and things you need in order to install an ipod cable into the sound system so I was pretty excited to do this until I found an ipod cable already installed in the car. Its located by the cup holders, in the second part that lifts up in front of the rear cup holders. It has power but it won't play through the unit. Its a 2005. I also read about the silent cd hack and I thought maybe thats it. But it didnt work. The CD plays and the ipod is playing but I don't hear any music. Is there another button I am suppost to press? Are there other hacks that I dont know about? Like i said the only cable in there is an ipod connector cable. No mini jack. And it is powering my ipod just not picking up the music. Any suggestions? They did a small tune up at the dealer, could that have anything to do with it?

P.S.

Only buttons on my radio are

FM/AM SAT CD TAPE/MD

Ipress cd once let the cd play and try to play music off ipod..no luck =(

press the cd button again. The LCD screen on the dash should change to EX (I think...).

Well that didnt work but I did figure it out. As I was looking around I saw a small red switch installed under the steering wheel. When I flipped it, the radio got all static-y so i started looking through stations and suddenly i heard the music from my ipod coming through. I kept turning the stations because it was still very static and i finally found a station and the ipod came out crystal clear. something like 89.7 FM. Very weird. Has anyone ever heard of this? I'm atleast glad i got my ipod to work. Now next question, can the stock radio handle an amp and a subwoofer?

Yes it can, I didn't see if you posted if it was bose or not, but bose has an amp in the trunk that you can get a remote wire from, but you will need to run big gauge wire from the battery to the trunk to power the amp. The remote wire just tells the amp when to turn on. You will have to tap into the bose amp also for the speaker input to the amp.

I have the same mysterious set up that was installed in my 2008 RX-8 40th An when it was purchased. I also have the BOSE premium sound. Have you figured out how it is setup with the radio?

Press cd twice. It should display ex on the display. If it does this them that is the input for the iPod.

Pressed CD twice. Just played CD's. I have the same mysterious cord running to a basic switch. When the switch is off and on 87.9 on the FM Dial it is full of static and i cannot hear my iPod connected to the Aux cord (no idea where the aux cord runs) When the switch is on, and on 87.9 on the FM dial, there is almost no static (a faint high pitched whine tho) and I can hear my music very well through my iPod connected to the Aux cord.

Headed to the shop tomorrow for full check up before driving up north...

Any other thoughts?

You have an fm modulator installed then. IT may be inside the dash, they work decent and play anything you plug in. Only downside is you have to use the device to control the music. If you connect bluetooth, you can stow away your device and use the steering wheel controls or the stereo. I have GROM audio and it works flawlessly to connect to phone or carputer(tab 2) to play music. Hope this helps. Sounds like you got it all figured out though.
