New rx-8 owner

Hi everyone,
My previous car, a '99 pontiac trans am got totalled, so I went car shopping last saturday, after test driving a few cars I ended up with a nice velocity red '06 RX-8 6 speed with 32k miles.. I've always wanted an RX and I love this thing I'm still learning to drive it smoothly, I hadn't driven a stick in over a year..
No sunroof, no TCS, no fancy radio.. so I was thinking of getting the audiolink flash mp3 player from therpmstore for it..

-Gerard

Congrats! Based on your join date, you've been thinking about an 8 from the beginning. Should be a little step up from the Grand Am. Enjoy.

My bad. For some reason I saw that as Grand Am, lol. Trans Am is not so bad. Try not to miss the neck snapping torque too much.

I kind of miss the torque from the easy driving perspective... it seems to be all about picking the right gear, the RX has PLENTY pickup for me.. as soon as I learn to drive it properly hehe..

the suspension is so nice and tight, and cornering rocks in the RX..

A nice rebound you made! My ex boyfriend had a 98 TA Ram Air - it reminded me of the batmobile...

Welcome and enjoy!

It is!!! the thing I liked the best about the T/A was that every time I walked up to it to drive it, it made me smile, the 8 does the same thing, and I found myself walking backwards through the parking lot looking at it while I walk away ..
and its sooooo much fun to drive!!
I actually found an excuse earlier to go drive it, I needed a starbucks pick-me-up during work hours

now get an AFE short shifter in there and you'll never want to get out.

And I thought the shifter was already pretty short I'm adding that to the list... I was just reading up on the Cobb AP thing, I imagine that will void my 100k mile warranty?
Funny how fast I got sucked into looking up mods haha..

Thanks for the hints I tend to not get involved in contoverses, i just read both sides and draw my own conclusions..

I just took a detour on the way home, just because its so AWESOME to drive! I never even did that in the Trans Am, its addicting!! :D

^ yep and that doesn't go away much. Even after 3 years still look for excuses to drive for no reason or take the long way home.

lmao speaking of Grand Am, Im driving it as a loaner this morning, omg does it suck! not only did i get in and feel weird because of the lack of clutch pedal, it just sucks lol.. i figured it would be comparable to the trans am and grand prix i was used to.. but it feels so much cheaper ..

Yes my friend, that is the sign of a true addict. I was doing exactly that last night in a parking lot; the security guy came up to me as if I was up to something. I gave him some bogus, stuttering, excuse, which made him suspect me even more. That's his waste of time. Little did he know... Welcome to the addiction!

Be careful in winter time, the 8 w/o TSC is dangerous. It saved me from couple accidents due to black ice driving down lagrange. Drive safe in winter in IL winters. but congrats, its a beautiful car

I *should* be ok, the T/A was ok in the winter with no TCS and a little weight in the back, the 8 has that nice 50/50 weight distribution, which should make things easier, I guess I'll find out, I may get some mazda3 wheels and snow tires if it sucks too much..
thanks for the warning

I got my 8 last February. It took me a long time to learn to drive it smoothly too. I learned how to drive stick on a Subaru WRX. Wow, it was a completely different animal. But I'm glad you are having fun and welcome to the club.

Razz, I looked at them, and they weren't in the budget, maybe in 4 years
It was between a GTO, a 350Z, another Trans Am, and the RX-8..
I was really 50/50 on the GTO vs RX-8, but the mazda dealer made the deal just a little sweeter for me and that settled it..
