New rx-8 owner

Hi everyone,
My previous car, a '99 pontiac trans am got totalled, so I went car shopping last saturday, after test driving a few cars I ended up with a nice velocity red '06 RX-8 6 speed with 32k miles.. I've always wanted an RX and I love this thing :) I'm still learning to drive it smoothly, I hadn't driven a stick in over a year..
No sunroof, no TCS, no fancy radio.. so I was thinking of getting the audiolink flash mp3 player from therpmstore for it..

Congrats! Based on your join date, you've been thinking about an 8 from the beginning. Should be a little step up from the Grand Am. Enjoy.

miztic 09-11-2008 11:29 AM

Yes! I went to the detroit auto show when they first came out and had been reading up on them.. I bought the Trans Am (not Grand am ugh ;) back then because it was cheaper and filled my sports car need ;)

oh and the spoiler is being put on tomorrow :)

JRichter 09-11-2008 11:44 AM

My bad. For some reason I saw that as Grand Am, lol. Trans Am is not so bad. Try not to miss the neck snapping torque too much.

miztic 09-11-2008 12:10 PM

I kind of miss the torque from the easy driving perspective... it seems to be all about picking the right gear, the RX has PLENTY pickup for me.. as soon as I learn to drive it properly hehe..

the suspension is so nice and tight, and cornering rocks in the RX..

Welcome to the addiction

A nice rebound you made! My ex boyfriend had a 98 TA Ram Air - it reminded me of the batmobile...

Welcome and enjoy!

miztic 09-11-2008 02:09 PM

Thanks!
and yeah, mine was black and it totally had that batmobile feel, I loved that car ... the 8 is filling the void nicely tho..

Ross_Dawg 09-11-2008 02:27 PM

welcome man... congrats on the clean purchase

Stenobeth 09-11-2008 03:06 PM

Hey Gerard, I just got my 8 two weeks ago... 2006, velocity red, 6-speed! :) Omigod, isn't it AWWWWWWESOME!?!?!?

miztic 09-11-2008 04:03 PM

It is!!! the thing I liked the best about the T/A was that every time I walked up to it to drive it, it made me smile, the 8 does the same thing, and I found myself walking backwards through the parking lot looking at it while I walk away ..
and its sooooo much fun to drive!!
I actually found an excuse earlier to go drive it, I needed a starbucks pick-me-up during work hours ;)

laythor 09-11-2008 04:06 PM

now get an AFE short shifter in there and you'll never want to get out.

miztic 09-11-2008 04:57 PM

And I thought the shifter was already pretty short :) I'm adding that to the list... I was just reading up on the Cobb AP thing, I imagine that will void my 100k mile warranty?
Funny how fast I got sucked into looking up mods haha..

Welcome

Glad to have you. Stay out of the oil controversy.

miztic 09-11-2008 06:20 PM

Thanks for the hints :) I tend to not get involved in contoverses, i just read both sides and draw my own conclusions..

I just took a detour on the way home, just because its so AWESOME to drive! I never even did that in the Trans Am, its addicting!! :D

JRichter 09-11-2008 07:45 PM

^ yep and that doesn't go away much. Even after 3 years still look for excuses to drive for no reason or take the long way home.

congrats welcome to the addiction

miztic 09-12-2008 10:39 AM

lmao speaking of Grand Am, Im driving it as a loaner this morning, omg does it suck! not only did i get in and feel weird because of the lack of clutch pedal, it just sucks lol.. i figured it would be comparable to the trans am and grand prix i was used to.. but it feels so much cheaper ..

Yes my friend, that is the sign of a true addict. I was doing exactly that last night in a parking lot; the security guy came up to me as if I was up to something. I gave him some bogus, stuttering, excuse, which made him suspect me even more. That's his waste of time. Little did he know... Welcome to the addiction!

szym0n 09-12-2008 12:46 PM

Be careful in winter time, the 8 w/o TSC is dangerous. It saved me from couple accidents due to black ice driving down lagrange. Drive safe in winter in IL winters. but congrats, its a beautiful car

miztic 09-12-2008 01:28 PM

I *should* be ok, the T/A was ok in the winter with no TCS and a little weight in the back, the 8 has that nice 50/50 weight distribution, which should make things easier, I guess I'll find out, I may get some mazda3 wheels and snow tires if it sucks too much..
thanks for the warning :)

luckygrrl 09-12-2008 01:43 PM

I got my 8 last February. It took me a long time to learn to drive it smoothly too. I learned how to drive stick on a Subaru WRX. Wow, it was a completely different animal. But I'm glad you are having fun and welcome to the club.:)

Renesis07 09-12-2008 06:35 PM

reppin the VR's

LOVE IT...

Razz1 09-12-2008 06:53 PM

Oh MAN! You should have bought a Pontiac G8 GT!

miztic 09-12-2008 08:07 PM

Razz, I looked at them, and they weren't in the budget, maybe in 4 years :)
It was between a GTO, a 350Z, another Trans Am, and the RX-8..
I was really 50/50 on the GTO vs RX-8, but the mazda dealer made the deal just a little sweeter for me and that settled it..
