New to the rotary world, have a few questons

My wife and I just bought a 2005 Titanium Gray GT with appearance package and spoiler. It is on the boat on its way over and I have a few questions. I have heard about the recalls, has anyone bought one recently and have you had to do any of the recalls. Also, Is there a rev limiter on the car? I know there is a shift noise at 8500, but is there a limiter? I have searched through the recalls and could not find a specific answer regarding the recalls. I was also wondering if I will have the latest flash, I am from the Subie world and I have been researching this car for awhile, but some answers I have yet to find.

Thanks in advance

Limiter....

Yes, a spark cut-out at 9500 rpm, but no "speed-limiter" that the JDM models have... :D

Welcome klone! Enjoy your stay... congrats on purchase.

A head-on: Recall happens around the world. I have done mine down under.
Passed lower arm inspection.
Passed fuel tank inspection, insulation installed.
We also getting new battery, spark plugs, and starter motor for the older models.

Re: Limiter - yes. There is one at 9500. Not recommend trying when you get your new car

Re: Flash - you will have to check with dealer for the recall flash - mainly to prevent continuous reving when the car is stationary. They can do that during pre-delivery of your pride.

Yeah, I don't plan on taking it past 9000, but it is nice there is something there as a secondary protection. I will have to check the flash version when the dealer gets it. I know on my WRX I have bounced off the limiter a few times, but I did not worry about it since it was there. I will have to get used to the 9000 rpm redline, in my WRX I am used to the turbo and exhaust note for shifting, the RX8 is much quiter and smoother.

It's not that quiet @ 9000 rpms.

Welcome aboard.

It's very quiet at 9000 rpms compared to all the other production cars with 9K redlines.

Oh wait! There aren't any! :D :D :D

So its either the loudest or quietest 9K car. You pick.

Minds very audible around 7500-9000 rpm (especially in concrete tunnels or overpasses) and with windows down nothing else sounds the same. I want to make it a little more agressive sounding eventually or soon so I've been checking around.

A stock RX8 is much quiter at 9000 rpms than either of my two cars. The WRX has a full turboback exhaust and the cougar, well it is loud. All three cars are different beasts and driving each one of them is fun for their own reasons. So anyway, even though the car is being shipped I still have to ask the dealer to check everything, if they have been recalled should they not be fixed at the factory from this point on?

If your new RX-8 is on the boat, the current recalls will not apply. If you doubt that, go to the Rosenthal service bulletin postings and read the latest recalls--one for a lower A arm problem and the other for possible fuel tank damage due to overheating. Neither of those, nor any of the very early recalls, will apply to your new vehicle.

Thanks Go, I will double check to make sure, but that puts me a little at ease. My WRX was backed into by a Tacoma and has been in the shop for three weeks getting fixed. The last thing I want is another car sitting at a dealer for an extended amount of time.
