Everything you need to know should be in this thread:

Anyways here is my take on your questions as well:
1. Engine flooding occurs when the car is started cold and turned off immediately without letting the engine reach operating temperature before shut off. In other words, starting your car after it has been sitting for quite a while just to move it out of the garage, driveway, etc. and turning it off without letting it warm up.
2. Yes, it is best to check the oil at least once a week or every time you fill up at the gas station since our cars use some oil to lubricate the apex seals.
3. This can apply to any car if you decide to constantly drive like a maniac and brake as if you were about to hit a wall at every stoplight. What I mean to say is, as long as you're careful, you shouldn't.
4. If driven daily? Yes. Expect no more than 17 or 18 MPG on the streets and if you're lucky, 20 on the highway using premium fuel.
5. Common Issues:

5. Common Issues:
- Compression Loss: Excessive carbon build up which results from babying the car instead of driving it like you stole it. Redline a day keeps the carbon away.
- Power Loss: Factory ignition coils can fail anytime typically between 25,000 - 40,000 miles and should be replaced along with new ignition wires and OEM spark plugs.
- Catalytic Converter Failure: Your catalytic converter can fail anytime without warning. Symptoms of a bad cat are a result of loss of power, check engine light. This can be prevented by removing the stock cat and replacing it with an aftermarket mid-pipe which is illegal in most areas due to emission laws.

These cars DO have their own issues but I prefer to regard that as 'character'!
1. Engine floods if not started n stopped properly? Not really true although it IS true to say it is likely to happen if you just start from stone cold, then switch off again. Moving out of the garage for a wash for example. Easy way round it, rev to about 2500 revs and hold it there while turning the key off. This should burn off any extra fuel in the chambers.
2. Oil needs checking weekly?? If you do LOADS of miles, yes. The engine is designed to burn a bit of oil as it lubs the rotors. In reality though, i'd say every couple of weeks is fair, easy to do when topping up with fuel (see point 4) and anyway, all cars should have their oil checked regularly anyway.
3. with it being rear wheel drive the car will skid to the side if braking in rain? Er, this is NO different from ANY other RWD car, in fact the balence is much better than most so there is no reason it should do this. As the wheels are not being driven when you're braking anyway, why would being RWD be a factor? Going sideways under full acceleration is another matter though but all have traction control as standard so again, not really an issue.
4. Costs alot on fuel?? Yup. You want performance? Gonna have to pay for that at the pump i'm afraid, high teens mpg on average.
5. Any other common issues known?? Can't think of any no.......
Oh wait, ENGINE! Did you get a compression test? If so it's a very wise thing to do before buying one of these. Now you've got it, still worth getting done for peace of mind. Don't worry, so long as you treat her nice and give her a good rev, she should be fine. These are one of the few cars where youre actually advised to redline them at least a couple of times a week, as it helps stop buildups forming in the rotors. Good luck and welcome!

Just you and the road. Your butt tells you if you're doing something wrong. Lots of fun in the snow. Sure you can turn the aides off but it isn't quite the same is it?

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
40th Anniversary
2007 saw the release of a special edition to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Mazda's rotary engine. The 40th Anniversary special editions were different in the Japan and North American markets. The Japanese version came in Marble White as an homage to the Mazda Cosmo Sport, which was initially only available in white. The North American version came in Metropolitan Grey Mica exterior with the interior clad in special Cosmo Red leather. It also had wheels of a new design later incorporated in the 2009 facelift, as well as an exclusive sport-tuned suspension with Bilstein dampers. Further upgrades included an enhanced urethane foam injected front cross member intended to improve steering feel. In North America, this special edition was available only in 2008.

However, us RX8 people arn't stupid, he spotted it and a load of us, myself included, bit it up to rediculous levels to ensure no innocent buyer got ripped off!
So no, while the 40th Aniversary is a nice special edition, they're not worth that much!

Not true. The base or sport doesn't have traction control. Or stability control. It's the "drivers" version of the car. No mechanical aides, no sissy buttwarmers, no foglights, no sunroof, no crappy sliding in leather seats.

You forgot another common issue with this car....
It tends to put a grin on the drivers face, sometimes for no apparent reason!
Enjoy the car, it comes with its issues yes, but its rewards and enjoyment of driving it far outweight them.
