is the film you guys talking about white-ish yellow that looks like the lense are fogging up? that means its oxidation or is suffering from UV rays. its very commen on ford (especially mustangs for some reason). you could remove it yourself. wet sand with 1000grit sandpaper, polish the lense (any agressive polish would work, or meg's plastic x), then put some protection (wax) on them to prevent them from happening again. Hope this helps.

I told my dealer that the lights seem to point much lower than before, even if the pattern is correct, and he also said that there may be an issue with the auto levleing sensor. I will get it checked on my next visit.

I've never had a problem but I always have my headlights on so I think it burns off whatever little bit of moisture there is. After I wash my car it seems like there is some moisture on the inside but it always goes away.

I'm off tomorrow to have one lens replaced on the front ... and a leaky rear lens as well. Can you foresee any problems with them not matching? The driver's side seems relatively clear, but I'm afraid after I get a new passenger side lense it will not look so hot.

I'm also going to hit them up for the slow start problem and rusty brake rotors.
Oh, and there is a light squeal when I brake - nothing horrific, but also not cleared with heavy braking. Old European cars I used to drive always squealed some - should there be any squealing at all?

Is there a "best" way to ask for all this stuff? I have a little inferiority complex because I bought mine used, with 6000K miles on it from a dealer 100 miles away. It was a "demo", supposedly used by a Mazda rep (who parked by feel, by the looks of the passenger side rims).

When I asked for them to check out the lenses there was a pause ... and the service manager had to go out and check it out to give the thumbs up. Can I bribe them by asking them dumb questions about future work I'll give them?

I need to have my front headlights and taillights replaced. They look like ****. I placed an order for a passanger headlight. I need to see if thats in and have them install it and line it too. I'll show them the "film" crap in the head and taillights as well.

I think I have this issue now. Best way to describe it I have some odd looking technicolor wet spot(s) on my headlights on the inside. Gonna give it till tomorrow to hopefully clear up since the last few days here in MA have hit over 100degree's and today it finally crested at just 90. Anyways is this a similar occurance to the film you guys are talking about (sorry 15 pages is alot to read through but I did read the first 5 pages lol).

For those of you that don't want to have the lights changed here is how you remove the film from the Headlights.

dab your finger into some metal polish and add a little bit of Carnuba wax and work it in a circular motion for a while and rub it off with a cloth prefereably microfiber. after a little bit of rubbing it comes off. My buddy figured this out. and did it ot my car. And the headlights were free of this film.

RoyalPain, my film was on the inside, not the outside. I believe this is what most people experienced. Might be wrong

Yeah mine is on the inside.. but does anyone know if this film they are mentioning is what i have.. gonna attempt some pictures but not sure if it will show up. Its just looks like a technicolor stain on the inside of the lens. Part of me wants it confirmed before I goto my Service Dept on Monday so they dont try the classic "Oh no thats common it will go away trust me." Still wish I knew what our Surveys counted to because I'd attempt to use that as coverage haha.. again any help would be nice.

I thought mine was on the inside so I didn't try anything on it and my buddy looked at it and tried to remove it and it came off.
I am not saying you are wrong I am just saying I thought it was on the inside of my head lights too. It is worth a shot if you have an extra 30 minutes to work on your beautiful car, and don't mind a little rubbing.

Mine was on the inside, I bought a new leftover inventory 05 that had probably been sitting on the lot for a year outside. Took it in and they replaced them no questions asked, idiots didn't align them properly though and 1 was considerably aimed higher. Took it into another local dealer and they aligned them, now they're about on par with my S2000's headlights.

^^that is what I have on the inside of my front right headlights as well... i tried to take it off with plastic polish just in case it was on the outside, but unless it didnt work, its on the inside... I have not been to the dealer yet (waiting for the new flash tsb), but will take it in soon and try to get it replaced... the haze in the headlights is exactly like your pic.

Did you guys try washing and claybarring the headlight? I didn't a few times and it didn't come out so I definetely knew it was on the inside.

I tried taking some more pictures at different angles but the shine that the camera kept on picking up made it impossible to see the "film/haze" in my previous picture. In person though you can see that this film/haze is about a 1/8 to 1/16 deep in. At first I took my haze up to oxidization but then I looked at my mothers lights and she has a 04' car like mine and hers look fine.

Gonna take mine in tomorrow after my chiropractor apt and see about getting them replaced (I just bought the car and still have the warrenty) and getting my visor replaced (was aparently broken before I bought the car, downside to only driving durring the day and never at dawn or dusk).

I'm taking mine in next week to have both front lights replaced.

Do you know if they (service) have to remove the front bumper to remove/replace the lights?

shouldn't matter what dealership u purchased ur car from. if car is under warranty, should be replaced at any service department. shouldn't matter halogens or xenons either. front bumper will have to be removed to take out the lights (reason i haven't done it yet). i have a ton of condensation.

MacMan, when did you purchase your car (model year)? Do you have halogens or Xenons?

Yes, they have to remove the front bumper to replace the headlight assemblies.

Bought it new in September '03. I've had the film since day one and thought that since I'm in the last year of warrantee, I'd better get them replaced now. I didn't want the dealer to "mess up" my front bumper when it was still "new". My anxiety level is much lower now, but I still have some concern that they will mess it up.

I have Xenons bulbs which came standard in the GT model, I believe.

JFYI, I had new headlights installed due to the film on the inside of them.. the replacements are now starting to look like the old ones did. I'll get them swapped out in about a year.
