Smile New Engine and Cat on the way

Hey guys,

So Mazda has approved me for a new cat and engine under warranty, but with the earth quake in Japan it seems to be causing some delays and back orders... Anyway, I wanted to get some advice before my new engine and cat arrive so that I can do all I can in to take advantage of this situation.

What causes so many Cats to fail?
(So I can prevent my new one from failing)

Why do so many rotaries lose compression?
(So my next engine doesn't fail)

Is there any thing I should change or replace before they install my new cat and engine?
(Start fresh?)

Thanks guys!

I just got my engine replaced and picked up my 8 today, and from what the service manager was saying is that the carbon build up causes the rotors to lose compression.

I live in Florida and I guess the issues in Japan didn't affect Mazda too bad since I went to Mazda last week which was when they ordered a new engine for me and now today I picked it up!

Usually the 04 models have the most issues about low compression. Anyway, read the stickies to avoid another failure of the engine. Good luck and hope this time, it will last longer than before.

cats fail when you have a weak ignition system

rotaries loose compression over time ... its normal ... however they loose compression faster if you do not take care of them
